Ok guys... I've been thinking... I don't there has been a "Z" specific meet for all of SOCAL. Lets have a meet...

I'm thinking at the Irvine Spectrum on June 1, 2008 at 12pm. All Z's (Z4's, Z3's, M's, NON-M's, Coupes & Roadsters)...

How's that sound?? We can do a "meet & greet" then lunch... after lunch go for a drive down PCH, it'll be an excellent chance for all the ZPOST.com, Zcoupeaddicts.com, Bimmerfest.com, Bimmerforums.com and other Z's in the area to finally meet up...

IMZ4N (BOB): Maybe you can coordinate something with the BMW Z club... chime in...

Lets get started:

Here we go. A Z meet in Irvine.

Lets see a Z only meet. I could do this. Count me in.

There is also a group of Z's getting together in Riverside in June as well. They have not made specific plans as yet. They are talking about going to the race museum. Sounds like fun also.

I just confirmed that the Riverside International Automotive Museum (http://riversideinternationalraceway.com/index.html) will host a private event for BMW Zs on June 8th. The museum will provide coffee and snacks and tables for 40 people, and even more if necessary. The musuem is closed to the public on Sundays, so this will be a special event. There is a $5 donation to view the musuem's exhibits.
There is a sign-up list HERE (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1002805). It would be great if all the enthusiasts going to Irvine on June 1st can come out again on the 8th. Or we can combine for one big meet. Thanks.

I was under the impression that there was a volunteer to organize an OC caravan and the meet point would then be posted for others in the area to join. I was not going to be able to join the caravan as I would be needed to be at the museum early to set up for the meet.

To answer your question. The museum will open at 9:00 for set up and people were asked to be there at 9:30.

I'll put together a caravan for folks in Los Angeles/Pasadena/Montebello/Covina areas.

It'll be somewhere along the 60, probably between the 710 and 605. That way it will be in the middle of our area.

The info should be up by early next week. Let me get details down. Let me know if you have any ideas.

I really want to improve upon the ideas we used for the Bimmerfest meet.

To view a printable PDF of this info, go here (http://turquoisetitmouse.com/BMW/zfest2008/meetguide.pdf).

The Los Angeles caravan will meet in the Carl’s Jr. parking lot, located at

13151 Crossroads Parkway South
City of Industry, CA 91746

at 8:00 a.m., June 8, 2008. We will leave the meet point at approximately 8:15 a.m., merging onto the 60 freeway heading East for the hour long drive to the Riverside International Automotive Museum. This is the goal, and I hope that we will all do out best to make this happen.

I also want to clarify the purpose of this caravan: We want to have a group of BMW Z-series cars drive together to the destination. Depending on the number of cars, this could be in one or two lanes, but either way, it will be in a fairly tight formation. It is not a race, nor an opportunity to show off and speed excessively. If you would prefer to race or drive fast please let the leader know, and I will see if I can connect you with other like-minded drivers.

With that in mind, there are things that the organizers encourage and others that we do not…

Please be on time- The caravan will consist of many enthusiasts and we will not be able to wait for people running late. If you live far away, please come early and plan ahead in case of traffic.

Obey all traffic laws- We cannot and do not advocate the running of traffic lights, stop signs nor any other posted traffic laws. This includes the speed limit. What we are doing is not illegal, but we do not want anyone stopped by the police.

Do not race and/or draw undue attention towards yourself- This includes aggressive take-offs at stops and any other behavior that is dangerous or illegal.

Have fun and thanks for participating! For those curious, both Mapquest and Google Maps were used for these directions.

-Departure-

http://turquoisetitmouse.com/BMW/zfest2008/depart.jpg (http://turquoisetitmouse.com/BMW/zfest2008/depart.jpg)

Since we should have a manageable group of cars, we will be lining up before getting onto the freeway.

When we leave, a predetermined leader(s) will exit the parking lot, making a left onto Crossroads Parkway.

They will then stay on the right shoulder, stopping before the fork entering the onramp.

The street is multi-laned and there should be little traffic this time of day, so this should not be a problem.

All cars will line up behind the leader, then when the last car is in line, they will signal the leader and the caravan will merge onto the freeway.

At this time of day, the meters should not be on, allowing cars to continuously enter the freeway.

-The Drive-

The number of lanes we occupy will depend on how many cars come out, but we will most likely need two lanes, so we will have two leaders, both with 2-way radios.* The leaders will be setting the pace as well as being the first to change lanes.

Please be aware that the lead drivers will be driving a consistent 70 miles per hour as long as traffic allows it and traveling in the left hand lanes. This speed is generally the flow of traffic (or a bit slower than flow) and being in those lanes will keep the merging cars from interrupting the caravan and slowing us down.

Please wait until the car in front of you changes lanes before you move over. This should help us keep order and keep people from having to accelerate and/or cut others off. This will be easily accomplished when we head there, though the leaders will not begin to move to the left until the entire caravan is on the freeway and up to speed. As for when we are exiting the freeway, do not worry about missing the merger to the 91, the leaders will begin moving over 5 miles/4 exits early, when we cross Valley Way. That will provide ample time for the rest of the caravan to get over.

Once on the 91, we will be taking the first exit, Columbia Ave. and drive the remaining mile on side streets.

I know that this seems overly troublesome and detailed, but believe me-It’s all going to be necessary if we have any more than four cars.

*I need two drivers to be leaders; Either to lead the caravan or be the last one out. All that is needed is to be on time and be able to follow the above directions. If you do not have a 2-way radio, I have extras, I’ll just need to see your drivers license the day of the caravan. Contact me if you’re interested.
For 2-way radios, we will be using channel 8.

One of the posters over there has been trying to get BMW magazines to cover the event, and Bimmer Magazine is going to be sending a writer.

There's a lot of other cool stuff too. Photogs, special menu at the meet for everyone, plus the fact that the museum is opening for this as a special event. Lots of great stuff.

And Caravan News-

We're doing pretty good, but if we get more than 10-12 cars, and I think we will, we'll need one more driver to help coordinate. The Z1 is even more rare than the Z8's. There will be Z8's at the meet Sunday. Z1 is quite a bit harder. Numbers just keep growing. Way cool.

Indeed, I don't think any of us was expecting this. Our very own Z home coming in the west coast. Is Scott driving his Z8 straight none stop to Riverside?

I have a small request to the OP, can you update the thread title? Can you also post up to date info (or just a link to the first page of the mother thread) on your first post. This will help minimize confusion.

Thanks in advance:thumbup:
