Hello, and welcome to the 'Fest.

So what exactly happens? The car idles at 850 RPMs? And this is when the engine is cold, right?

The O2 sensor would not affect this at all. If it is steady at 850 RPMs when it is cold, it is supposed to do that to help bring the engine to operating temperature faster. It doesn't sound like you have a problem.

Ming,
Yes, if your engine is at 850 RPM when cold, but drops down to 500-600 when at normal temperature, then your engine has no problem at all.

500-600 is a little low for a 4 cylinder! Should be 850 when warm, around 950-1050 for the first minute or two after startup.
