I need a part number for the O-ring/gasket that goes between the oil filler cap and the crankcase, its visible after you remove the oil filler cap. I was changing my oil today and noticed that the seal is warped and no longer properly fitted. I can't drive the car as there is a slight drip of oil coming up and out of the crankcase from under the filler cap while the engine is on.

Anyone know if I can just go to the dealer and describe this o-ring and they should have one?

thanks, I looked it up and this is what I found:

14 GASKET RING 1 11121703410 ENDED

ENDED means part has been discontinued.....so what the hell do I do now? I need that gasket ring otherwise I'm gonna lose too much oil!

It will be a very cheap part, ring up the dealer with that part number, see if they get it right, and if not get them to look up the right part and order it in or go and pick it up if they have it at the warehouse.

Just call the dealer and describe it, and ask them for the part number.

Ok so it seems the ring needs to be replaced from the underside of the valve cover to ensure a proper seal, how do I remove the valve cover (plastic covering piece that says BMW on it)? does it just pull up? I tried pulling on it but I didn't want to force anything.

edit: nevermind, I saw the camouflaged screws that needed to come up.

What????

I thought you were just talking about the o ring that goes around the oil filler neck. Why would you have to remove the valve cover?

yeah to properly fit that o-ring, you have to install it on the oil filler neck under the plastic shroud that says BMW on it, then secure it in with that cover. If you just try to secure it using the oil filler cap, it doesn't seal properly as the o-ring itself is larger than the square base of the oil filler cap. NOTE: I'm not referring to the o-ring inside the cap itself. I just took it off and did it, now it seems to fit properly. I'm still going to buy a new one and replace it anyways. My mistake if that plastic shroud is not the valve cover, I thought that plastic crap was called the valve cover.
