Hi, i have a E36 1996 318i and am having problems with what seems to be the fan blower? When the engine in running, i push the AIRCON button and the revs change, so i know that the aircon is working fine...however nothing is blowing out...there is no go whatsoever from the FAN blower....I turn the speed onto FULL and still nothing. i was told to look at a unit called the blower resister? and this is what i came up with? "pictures attached"

Any ideas?

Thanks

Thats ur final stage resistor or "hedgehog".. that can cause the probs but u usually find the fan blows on just one speed if that goes..Do u get the fan blowing if the aircons off or do u have no fan at all??

Then id personally say (at a guess) the Hedgehog is fine.. If u have a mutimetre u could check see if its working fine buy testing to see theres a current through it.. But id go with another fuse \ relay.. try the Thermal fuse thats on the hater box.. some are on the left \ some the right of the actual blower unit.. Or just search in the search option above for heater or blower etc and u'll get millions of pages going into varyin details of things to try.. Good luck :)

but where the hell do i find the heater box....ive searched for this thing for years. do i have to remove the dash? where are the relays for the fan located? is there some where i can apply 12v to the fan directly to test the fan?

thanks

It could be the capacitor. I replaced mine when I was having trouble and havent had a problem since. I don't have the link at the moment, but if you search under my name you should find it.

it could be the blades on your blower fan thats broken and catching on the blower see below
