Probably about 105-110....wide open road, middle of the day, I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson.

Probably only 100 or so on I-95 passing a truck that refused to move over for 5 miles despite the fact the right lane was open.

145MPH (230km/h) on some back road in Canada, as a passenger. Scared the crap out of me and I will never ride with that person again.

I've been on the north side of 140mph on a closed course in my Z4. Not sure of exact (indicated) speed because I was a little busy driving. With the top down, it was something to experience.

115 mph, rural Illinois summer 2004 (2003 BMW X5).

115 in my moms ford escape, on a very nice back road in east texas. (sorry not a bimmer, ill have that info this summer).

that lil suv actually felt really solid at those speeds, bout 105 in my ford f-250, the wind sounded like it was bout to tear the roof off, but for a truck that should have never seen those speeds, it felt ok.. still scarry as h-e-double hockey sticks... lol

I reached up at about 120 to close the sunroof. Reaching up wasn't a problem, glancing up and to the right while reaching isn't recommended though (left shoulder twitched, so did the steering wheel). :yikes:

Quick question for all those good drivers that know how to push their ride safely, whats the top speed that you have ever gone in your bimmer?

190 km/hr 407 for a brief stretch (2km) where I know there were no police and also no traffic. I usually drive responsibly. Just lost it for a few minutes. This was in an X3.

407 is a closed highway with Autobahn quality..............
Normal daily traffic especially between Mississauga and Burlington on the 407 see most people doing 130 to 140 km/hr.

In the 911 - I am not saying............

145mph (about 235 km/hr) on a stretch of open highway, well paved, no cars , no cops, nothing around. For about 2 miles. When you look to the side and see nothing but a blur of trees several hundred feet in the distance, you know you're not doing speed limit anymore. Oh yeah, this was in an '04 C320 Benz. Passenger.

The speed-o indicated 137 on a stretch of the newly finished 202 east of Mesa/Gilbert in the Phoenix area. I could have went faster but I couldn't see if there were any police at the end of the curve I was approaching.

Fastest I've ever shown was a 149 on my Honda Interceptor on I-17 north of Cordes Junction in AZ. I was tucked in behind the windscreen and, at that moment, everything was simply a blur. I was surprisingly calm though. Of course accepting that a mistake at that speed would leave a 100-200 foot grease spot where I was sliding can have that effect.

Just a hair over 140mph on the A95 from Garmisch-P to Munich. Just enough traffic and a good wind kept me from the limiter. Advice to anyone who wants to push it on the A95. Do it in the first 3-5miles, it has less curves and less traffic!!! Oh yeah, the indicated MPG was 6.0.......yes 6.0 mpg at that speed, and I have the pic to prove it ( my wife took the pic of course)

I totally know what stretch you're talking about! ;)

Top speed for me is 180km/h, but I've gone 160 km/h probably 5-6 times in various parts of southern VA and NC. Heck, I can do so just a couple km outside of the UVa campus during midday when traffic is lighter. I have the space to go faster, but there's a bit of a "social responsibility limiter" that kicks in.

Sorry, that doesn't fly. Especially when the same person (me) got you the first time.

As a result, the rest of your post is hard to believe as well. I also find it hard to believe anyone would try 180mph in a rental car that they have no experience with. It takes a while to get to know a car's characteristics before pushing speeds. Do you think I'd try and pin 128mph on the loaner 335i we had a couple days ago?

By car:

1989 Porsche 944 Turbo S (wett chip) - 167 MPH on 540 in Raleigh middle of the day right after it was opened. Car was solid, scary solid.
2001 Audi S4 (Stage 2) - Around 145 MPH on 71 in Ohio. Again, amazingly composed.
2003 Z06 - 160 MPH on I17 coming down the mountain and schooling a STi. Damn scary, was not comfortable at that speed - seemed like liftoff was coming.
2006 Z4 si - I have never pushed it too much - no desire to do so. Prolly 110 tops. I really hate the car...
2007 E550 - 120 MPH no problem and quiet.

Audi TTQC (6 speed)- REVO-ed with bunch of other stuff --160mph and let off....on I-5...it kept going but it was getting scarry

MR-Spyder- 120mph with the top down on 101...scared sh*tless....i mean a car that tips the scale at 2180lbs going 120mph top down is very scarry......even with trd springs, bottom plates and cross braces etc. the car was still jumpy at high speed.

Z4M- so far 130-ish on the 210....but i wanna try out that 155limiter (and it sounds like the limiter only applies to top gear)

X3-125ish...on a back road in SLO.......

C280 sport- countless time hitting 140mph that's when the limiter kicks in.........(i had the car for quite a while and racked over 200k miles b4 i sold it)

FTO (in SARS land)- 190km/h the GPX that i had was an auto (INVEC II) and you cant go pass 180km/h in top gear.......i had to be in (4th i believe) to top 180km/h and 190km/h was attained at almost redline

E46 325i- probably about 120mph....i really took it easy on that car back then

VW Golf V5 (in SARS land) - 160km/h or so....the car was very peppy around town but it was dog slow once it get pass 140km/h....so there wasnt really enuff 'open road' for me to top it out.....

I had a 08 M5 Touring with the M Drivers package installed on it (making it a 550hp car) on the Autobahn in Northern Germany and hit and indicated 328 kph (210 mph) on the heads up display. Believe me or not but the guy that I got the car from said that his best speed was 325 kph and said that he would have to go over in Germany (we lived in Belgium at the time) and beat my speed. I wish that I would've had my handheld GPS up and running so that I could've captured the top speed that it recorded but hopefully next time. :-)

It's an upgrade that is only available in Germany and you have to have a racing license to be able to get it, my friend does. It gives you 50 more hp (soon it will be more) and more control over the electronically controlled M suspension, speed limiter removal and a few extra settings. It was a really fun car to drive for the month that I had it. I had a great time playing cat and mouse with a 760 on the autobahn, that was until I put the car into 5th and left him for dead!
I've got pics of the car that I could post but it doesn't look any different than any other M5 touring.....

I should have paid $5 to race at Delaware near Strathroy but that's just a 1/2 mile

In a VW golf in turkey, about 220 km/hr, turning off the AC helps improve speed

and in a passat on the autobahn, pretty quick too, when the Germans put up those signs saying slow down for turns, you can't do twice that number like here in Canada

oh and in reference to the 407, OPP cruisers have passed me at 140 km/hr which I was doing until I saw them in the rearview mirror then pulled over a truck for doing 120 which is fairly common

of course every OPP is different, sometimes they let you by at 125 km/hr othertimes you get nailed for anything over 115 km/hr

Most recently I was driving down the freeway with the top down in my Z4 at around 75 MPH. A 350Z is right on my butt. I move over to let him pass and he follows me. I speed up and he is still on my tail. He wants to race but, I am not in the mood. So I slow down to around 65 MPH and so does he. He then moves to the right lane and matches my speed no matter what it is. I finally get tired of him and step on the gas. He stayed up with me until I reach 110 and then I pulled away. I was up to 140 before I backed off. As for the 350Z he was just a memory. I don't know if I just out ran him or out drove him. But, if you want to run with the big dogs be prepared to be bitten.

The fastest I've been is 132 mph on the Autobahn heading to Austria. Would've loved to have gone faster, but my wife told me to "be careful", her cue to slow down. :(

I have video to verify. :D

03 540i/6. 135mph, indicated on speedometer, in a long, straight stretch of southern Utah. Solid as a rock, and still pulling. With the speedo error, this is probably closer to 125mph.

98 Intrepid. 115mph, and it felt like I was driving a helium-filled Chevy Caprice wagon on ice skates. Not recommended.

This particular posting needs a pucker-factor smilie, but I shudder to think what it might look like.

(Not that I'm complaining about Caprice Wagons. I learned to drive in one. It's embarrassing to show up to school in the parents' wagon, but you could haul you and 12 of your closest friends anywhere.

Coincidentally, we always called it the BMW, for "Big Mormon Wagon".) :D :D :D

I hit 135 in the Cooper S then ran our of road (had to exit). I don't know why MINI claims the car is aerodynamically limited at 137 mph, it had a lot more go for sure.

The fastest I've ever driven was in my 540i, 145 mph.

105 mph in our 2000 528. I was driving north on US 52 from Winston-Salem one Saturday afternoon and was running late getting home. My husband and I were supposed to attend a wedding that evening and I knew he would be really annoyed if we arrived late. I still had to get dressed, too. My plan was to drive 80 mph and try to talk it down if I got caught, because I had never had a ticket before. Since we hadn't had the car very long, I underestimated the smoothness of the car. Next thing I knew my 80 mph was 105. We got to the wedding with time to spare. My husband was amazed that I got home so quickly from Winston-Salem.

Years ago, when I was going thru my Audi Turbo Quattro phase, my wife and I were coming back from Atlantic City....it was early in the a.m.,hardly any traffic, she was doing around 90, when a couple of young guys in a Civic rice rocket latched onto the rear bumper and stayed there...."Lose these greaseballs", I said, and she put the pedal down. And *held* it down....and *held* it down....the needle swund beyond 125, the Honda was quite a ways back in the distance. "Ummmm, I think you can ease up a bit now", I casually remarked. After she got back down to 85 or so ("This feels so SLOW!", she said), I asked her if she knew how fast she was going, and she said no, she had`nt been watching the speedo. When I told her, she looked a bit shocked....I don`t think she`s gotten near those speeds again....

110mph in a 1968 Ford Falcon...it was a gravy train with biscuit wheels...not recommended

145mph in my old C6 Corvette on H3 in Hawaii. Felt a bit light and I was scared.

150 mph or whatever it tops out at in my 07 e90 335i, somewhere in Kansas City. Handled way better than the C6...and the Falcon (cawwww...) The girlfriend didn't notice I was going over the speed limit until I hit 110.

I can update my previous top speed with a new one.

200 km/h on the A92 between München and Dingolfing (what a way to end a trip!)

Ah, and that was in a 118i hatch with just 143bhp, and I'm sure it could peg the 210 limiter. Driving in Germany was as relaxing as a head massage, in spite of all they say about their motorway speeds.

that's because they have smarter drivers and their speed limits are realistic

you still get tickets and they have photo radar in the towns

New speed: 125 top (128 stock top speed, so not bad), held it at 120 throught a couple long sweeping turns, well above 115 for about 3 miles, board daylight, on some east Texas backroads.

155 somewhere btw Bremen & Bremerhaven. Smooth ride, only noticed the pressure in the cabin build up in my ears.
