Anyone know how many ohms each of the M5 subwoofer are rated for on an E39 bodied car?
PO installed a pair in the car I bought powered by a 3rd party amp. Sounds great but I just noticed only one is connected. I assume maybe they tried to hook both in series but weren't liking the dip in power from the amp. So I would like to know what I am dealing with as I want 'em both woofing.
Thanks!!

well considering the E39 with DSP got 2 5.25 with dual 8ohm coil paralled to the amp. i would suspect the coil to be 4ohms. if they actually then put them in series then this would not have been a problem for the amp. i would suspect they tried to paralle them to the amp that would have cuased the problem. the easiest way to know is the use a DMM to measure the coils, im still thinking they are 4ohms.
what amp are you running for the sub?

These are "M5" subwoofers, 10" each so they aren't the same. I attached a picture of them, however they come with an extension housing to protect the drivers which is how mine look. These are the exact same speaker though. Part #65-13-7-894-047 (one 10" subwoofer). They make for a great install but do take up a slight amount of trunk space.
What is in there now is a 3 channel Xtant X603e amp. 75 x 2 and 1 x 150 watts for the subwoofer channel.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

yea i know they are different but if the amp stayed the same though. then i makes sense they are 4ohms.
though i read that BMW tips and someone posted they were 8in's. i wonder if they later got upgraded to 10in's. from the comments they add alot more bass...
one thing you left out about the amp is at what wattage is it rate for. IE 75x2 into 4ohms or 50x2 into 8ohms. also did you see how they tried to wire them when things were getting installed?
