What was the last car you were driving before you got your Bimmer?

Mine was a 1997 Honda Civic with 155K miles on it. It was a trooper and nothing was ever wrong with it. But I love driving my Bimmer... nothing like it.

2000 Mercedes E320. White with dark blue leather interior. It had 92,011 miles on it when it was totaled last month from flood damage. The car ran well. Only rarely did it need repair of something not related to regular maintenance. But that body design (the W210 started in the 1996 model year) was a huge deviation from the prior Mercedes E-type, the W124 body. The W-124, made from 1986 through 1995, is a magnificent driver's car. Particularly for a large four-door sedan. I've owned two W124s, a 1995 E300 Diesel, and my oldest daughter drives our 1993 300E. But Mercedes really softened the W210 so that it felt more like a Lexus or large American sedan. So, while the E320 was a good car and paid for, I never loved driving it. In the back of my mind I always knew that it would be my last four door family sedan, and that I'd return to a BMW 3-series. I just didn't expect to make the change for another couple of years.

2006 Acura RL. Nice car, held no value, obvious Japanese vs. German differences. The iPod interface with Acura is a joke, love BMW's interface so much better.

i am just gonna list the ones that i had in the states--

--96 MBZ C280 sport...first 'sport' model in the US ....actualli the first 3 in the entire NorCal for that matter.....and the ONLY white one.....bought it new ....racked over 200k miles on it after 9 years......2 accidents......and tons of mods including RENNtech cam kit
drove it up to canada at 155k miles and it didnt miss a beat....those M104 engine are bullet proof.....

--01 MR Spyder....basically a toy for me.....want something small....and fun to drive ...and cheap of course since it was my first 'second car'....got it with 9k miles for $21k...throw in a bunch of mods...mostly for handling etc......drove it for 14 mos and traded it in for the car below (while losing a crap load of $$...... the resale value of those are almost next to nothing because noone want it ....it was impractical.....and gas prices were not at $4 a gallon)

--01 Audi TTQC 6 speed....Audi CPO car......with around 35k miles on it......decent amount of mods....the car was putting out about 238whp but massive amt of torque......Audi's CPO was unbeatable....got new water pump, new inst cluster, new cd changer, new engine valve covers, new TURBO (at 96k miles) right b4 the 100k mark :-P worth eevry dime that i paid extra for buying the car at the Audi Dealer....had it for about 4.5 years at 120k miles.....resale value was very good on it got kbb private party price -$250 (at good condition)

the current M Roadster that i got replaced the TT and my everyday X3 pretty much replaced the Mercedes...

The E46 325i was...well let's just say i 'gave' my 50% ownership to someone lolsssss

That's because it was a Chevy. (Know that GM manufactured most E36 BMW transmissions as well.)

I've always thought the D90's were cool. As far as reliability, how do they fare?

There's very little to them. Like anything with an aluminum engine so long as they don't overheat for too long they're very reliable. The manual transmission ('94 & '95) is less expensive to have work done and less likely than the auto ('97).

I've been happy with mine...both the '97 and the '95 I have now.

'98 Mazda 626, V6, manual transmission. Actually a pretty fun car. I was the original owner and drove it for 10 years before upgrading to my current ride. I'm probably going to keep my current car for another 10 years. I absolutely love it! Light years better than the mazda.

My first car was a 1979 Mercury Zephyr. It had a raging powerplant, a 4.1L straight six that squeezed out a dismal 155 hp from all that displacement

My first car was a '93 Nissan Altima. What a peppy little car! Even had a heads up display which everyone thought was cool. The only thing I added was XM radio. Never had a problem until transmission died after towing a trailer full of my possessions across the country.... twice. 185k miles all told but probably would have crossed 200k if I hadn't abused it so.

Also, '02 Maxima, before the new body style and I still like it better. The 255hp VQ engine didn't hurt and still gets about 22mpg.

'03 Accord EX V6 with leather. The nice, dependable family car that the wife drives.

1998 Dodge Intrepid with 109,000 (sold this past spring)
1985 Honda Accord with 160,000. Solid as a rock. Drove it for 3 years of residency.
1991 Kia Sephia. My wife owned it when we got married. In retrospect, the 35 mpg in that thing was awesome.
1990 Chevy Cavalier RS. (I guess that means Rally Sport-a misnomer if there ever was one).
1988 Chevy Celebrity 2.8 V6. It actually drove pretty well, and was a good college car.
1980 Chevy Caprice Wagon. Yeah. 305 V8, rear facing back seat, guaranteed to cause nausea in someone. I learned to drive in this thing, and had to sit on a big Yellow Page phone book to see.
