About a third of the X3's I see do not have the chrome exhaust tips. Are they part of a package?? If so which one?? I need a tip education.....

Our '05 came with the tips as part of the Aero kit. I believe the '06 on came with them in the sport pkg. They can also be purchased separately as an accessory through BMW.

Or Bavarian Autosport or eBay.

I have a 2006 sport package and it has chrome tips, but from what I remember the 2008 chrome tips look more substantial..will have to wait and see

In 2004 and I think 2005, they had to be purchased as an accessory, $32/each. They look good though!

Our 325i didn't come with them either, so that we had to buy chrome tips for that car too.

"Chrome tail pipes" are a standard feature (http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Vehicles/2008/X3/30si/features_and_specs/default.aspx?enc=/eiUrYOZAxtXbrazY6tfknvs2p4czl6fdqlc7VGB7GNOgdvV5FY 7VxPkeaUgVFk/Hnwd8a8Zl9jvnCtedY1I217hquQ9t8/rRJK8QdYjHJ8=) on all '08's
My '07 has them, and I vaguely recall they were standard in '07 also. If not, my '07 packages were Cold Weather and Premium.

My non sport '06 came with them. I don't know if it was a dealer "add on" but I know I didn't pay extra for them, I just assumed they were standard.

Bought a set for $60 when mine was in the shop after being rear ended. Much better looking. They slide right on and have a single screw on the bottom. Definitely DIY.
Just make sure your muffler tips aren't crooked. They installed mine on a new muffler after the accident. When I got it back I tried to straighten out one of the tips which was crooked. I couldn't. The pipes are oval and only fit a certain way. Turns out one of the muffler pipes was crooked. The shop agreed to exchange it for a new muffler though...
