I have a new 2008 X3 with the premium package. Great vehicle. A local installer gave me a price for a headrest based DVD install with equipment from Myron and Davis. The installer asked if the headrest was an "active headrest" that was part of a safety system. Can anyone let me know?

FYI, installed price for both headrests (each with its own DVD player and 7" screen in the headrest) plus wireless headsets is $1,600.

Yes, if you have a 2008, you have active headrests.

So with active headrests, does that mean I can't replace them with the Myron & Davis head rests? If not, is there some other place to install the DVD monitors??

I was thinking about using a 13' FP that would mount to the rear of the center armrest, and then tie it into my ipod using an ipod interface. May have to go with something smaller.

I am working on some details but it will be about a month before I have the schematics detailed.

For anyone using search to solve this, I found the answer. Rosen Entertainment manufactures a BMW X3/X5 specific solution for active headrests. Looks good on paper; I'll know more after install in 10 days.
