I notice a lot of people on this forum do not know how to post pictures. Then someone requested a writeup so I did one.

STEP 1:
First, find the picture you want on the web, and right-click it.
I host all mine through MySpace or Facebook.

STEP 2:
Next, go to the thread you want to post to, and
click "Go Advanced".

STEP 3:
Continue by clicking on "Insert Image", shown below.

STEP 4:
Then right click the box, and click "Paste".
The shortcut for this on Windows is CTRL+V.
(If this does not work, do step one again and continue from here.)

STEP 5:
Click "OK" when you have it pasted in.

FINAL STEP:
Finally, you have a picture in your post!
Sigh in relief and click "Submit Reply" once you are finished your post.

You can do it that way but that method is resulting in a lot of these:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148672&d=1212232082

For those who prefer not to use facebook or similar try this way instead....

When writing your post use the attach button http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148666&stc=1&d=1212229820 (you have to click http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148677&stc=1&d=1212235085 first if you are editing). You should get the following screen pop up (notice the file size restrictions). You can either upload files directly from your PC or give URL's of online files.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148673&d=1212232825

When you have selected the files you want just click http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148670&stc=1&d=1212230303

Complete the post by clicking http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148671&stc=1&d=1212230432

Now view your post. The uploaded files should appear as thumbnails at the bottom like these.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148678&d=1212235625

If you want the image to be displayed full size (or in a particular position inside your post) then you can perform an additional step: Right click and copy the link location from the attached image. It should be something like this:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=135393&d=1202914685

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148668&stc=1&d=1212230063 your post.

Use the insert image button http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148669&stc=1&d=1212230137 and paste the link to your attached image.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148676&d=1212234663

Click http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=148671&stc=1&d=1212230432 to complete the post.

Now your image is hosted by Bimmerfest and will not disappear unexpectedly in the future.

Thank you for your responses. It is true there are several ways to do it.

Warning: Common sense required

Method 1: Use the "Insert image" icon in the post composition page (find it using common sense) to display images from websites. Or alternatively pay attention to the code used when you quote people and use tags as they do. E.g. Image URL

Method 2: Use the "Manage Attachments" icon in the post composition page to upload images from your hard drive that are of the correct file size and dimensions (using common sense, or the Forum FAQ - link here (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_vb_attachment_exp lain))

In the meantime "Don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs." applies to the rest of us.

Okay your posts are probably useful for the truly inept, and they were nicely displayed. :)

Thanks. Yes, this was for the truly inept - there are a few on here and it's not a bad thing.

Bimmer MD:
Thanks. A lot of the people here needed that.

Matt:
I've always used the way originally descibed. It keeps the load off of the Bimmerfest servers and doesn't end in the broken link images, unless you use unreliable photo hosting sites. Photobucket is only reliable for a certain amount of time. Facebook and Webshots are a bit more reliable. I've always used my own private hosting space, which is even better.

It's all based on what's better for the person.

My thanks as well. I was able to post thumbnails, but I couldn't figure out how to make a picture show up in the message itself.

One question: after copying the URL of the thumbnail and inserting it into your post, is it then possible to delete the thumbnail, so that only the insert shows up?

Again, thanks.

The thumbnail only shows if you uploaded an attachment to that particular post, in which case you cannot remove it.

The thumbnail does not show if you show an image from a URL other than the post attachment for that post. If the post attachment is in another bimmerfest thread, it doesn't show the thumbnail if you link to it.
