I noticed that b'fest.com doesn't have any icon in bookmark or address bar... I'm talking about something like this (circled):

http://homepage.mac.com/rost12/icon.jpg

To get that all you have to do is place the "favicon.ico" file in the root directory. Here is the same roundel icon that BMW.ca uses:

favicon.ico (http://homepage.mac.com/rost12/favicon.ico)

For more detailed info on how to properly place the file look here (http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com/tutors/favicon.html).

Costs nothing and looks good

I've noticed that some other car forums had their own icons, too.

I like the idea.

Okay. I know it's there, I checked in another browser.

Does anyone know how to reset these thingys in Safari without deleting all my bookmarks?

It doesn't automatically load the new icon. :(

Okay, I think I answered my own question. Safari won't reload new icons, but you can delete the icon cache, like so:

Web-developers may have noticed that safari caches these icons and there's no way to get safari to reload it from the site if you change this icon. \"Empty Cache...\" etc. doesn't do it. This is annoying if you have made a new one for your site and want to see it in safari.

Since the .ico cache took me quite a while to find, others might have had the same trouble. It's in ~/Library -> Caches -> com.apple.WebKit -> icons. To empty the cache, quit safari and send the icons folder to the trash (or anywhere). You can apparently do this without affecting anything else in safari. Use at your own risk, but I have done this several times over several weeks without problems.

Thanks for the tip, SpaceMonkey.

Correction: in my case the path was:
Library/Caches/WebKit/Icons

It doesn't seem to be working in Mozilla

Yeah, I actually posted that before trying it myself. You're right. I also had the same files under ~/Library/Caches/Safari which I also deleted. Not sure if those needed to be thrown out too. :dunno:

Either way it worked. :bigpimp:

That's odd. It's working in Camino.

To get it to work for me in IE 6 I had to remove the bookmark and re-add it. I am sure every browser handles it different. :banghead:

It is a temporary solution until we can get a "bimmerfest" icon to go there :D

When looking around to see whho did this already I noticed that a number of bmw related sites used the same image as well. I would like to have a unique on for the 'fest though
