I just cleaned my baby this friday and now I've noticed that my rotors have turned sort of orange in color. It looks like rust. But for some weird reason it wasn't like that before I washed it. It just happened afterwards. Does anyone know how I can get my rotors to looking like normal again besides painting them?

Water instantly causes a film of rust on iron brake discs, not stainless steel ones.

Simply DRIVE your car, and touch the brakes a few times and it'll be gone. It's nothing abnormal, and you can't paint brake discs, you can only paint the outside visible part of brake callipers as they are not directly used in the braking process. You need clean friction surfaces so you can't paint them!

The first few times you touch the brakes they will squeal, that is the rust being cleaned off by the pads and it doesn't cause premature wear.

thanks man. That's exactly what I did after I washed her. But I waited about an hour after she was done before I took her for a spin and I think that's what caused the rust to settle in. Now I know for next time to immediately take her for a ride or pump the brakes a little to get them dry. I just figured that since it was so hot and sunny out that I wouldn't need to do that but now I see I should have. Thanks again buddy.

Sorry I added extra to my original post.

Once rust has formed, it is rust, it doesn't matter if all the water evaporates from it or not, they will instantly clean up as soon as you use the brakes even if you haven't driven the car in days.

No problem, enjoys yours as well! Do you have pics anywhere on the forum of your '99 328? I'd like to see it all in black!

You were so right. Today my rotors are back to their shiny self again. So happy! Thank again man.

Unfortunately at the moment I do not have any pics on the forum of my car. But I do not have an all black one. The exterior is just black. My interior is tan. But I am a big fan of the tan because I am a smoker and the black would just kill me. At least with the tan I don't see the ashes that much all over the place as if it were black you know.

But yeah as soon as I get around to it I will definitely put up some pics of my baby

Oh I just meant all in black as in black exterior, black bumpers and mouldings etc. The tan interior sounds great with the black exterior so I'll look forward to pics!
