Just came over from e46fanatics...

About to pick up a '94 e36 318 convertible automatic. Good body, no rust, a few cosmetic issues (bumpers scraped up a bit and scratches where someone botched a de-badging job) interior nearly perfect, good top, 150K miles, everything works. Drove great, but seemed sluggish compared to my e46 328ci Steptronic (not an even comparison I know, but how much difference should there be?). Any opinions, or things to look out for on this vehicle? It'll mostly be used for short trips around town. Thanks.

For what you want it for why not? Those little cosmetic blemishes just make parking less of a worry. Sounds like a fine around-town car to me.

what was asking price?

$5700 US. I should add that it has a new battery, shocks and exhaust.

That sounds a bit high for that model/mileage. Looks like Kelley private party blue book value is around $4300 (and that's for "excellent" condition, sounds like this one would be "good"). For comparison, I bought my '97 328i convertible with 104k miles for $6000, and it sounds like it was in comparable condition.

yeah, just my 2 cents, it sounds a little high, if you can get them closer to 4k i would go for it.

I just picked up a 96 with 214,xxx for 3000.00

It runs good, new paint.

If you can talk him down a grand or two why not. Hell, if you want it, just buy it.

Couldn't resist, so I gave the guy $4800 and drove home happy after he showed me receipts for all the work done since last fall (belts, pulleys, battery, shocks, exhaust, alignment). Steady as a rock at 80 mph with the top down.

Thanks to all for the info. Now it's off to the DMV for legal plates, then to figure out how to disable the passive locking feature on the alarm system.

and drove home happy

In the end that's all that really matters. :)

Welcome to the iC family. Was out all day yesterday with the top down......... God I love my car.

Oh, besides the fact one of the trips was to The Stealership for a new T-stat housing which just started leaking.
