Sorry guys but I am just one anal mutha bleeper. For some reason I love to listen to the sound of my car and now I've been hearing a slight pumping noise coming from underneath the hood. So me being an anal mutha bleeper that I am brought my baby in for a checkup and my mechanic said that the sound is just the water pump working. Do you think this is true? Or do you think I should get a second opinion? My mechanic is a professional race car driver and has been working on BMW's for a long time and I don't want to have to be second guessing his judgment but I really don't want any further problems to be caused if this noise is not normal. What do you guys think?

Hard to say without hearing it myself, is it a lot louder than normal? Any clicking or klunking???

Absolutely no clicking or klunking. And not at all loud...Can only hear it when I turn the radio off. It just sounds like something is pumping...really hard to describe it...

get someone in the car to turn the radio off while you listen for where the sound comes from

Does your engine temp. keep stable? If so you may be chasing ghosts. Doesnt sound as if anything is broken. :dunno:

yeah the temp gauge has always been constantly in the middle. no fluctuation at all there.

I just hope it is the normal sound of the water pump working. It's just a very faint pumping sound. It actually sounds something like this puuuuuuump.......and then it stops and then it goes.....puuuuuuuump...but u only can hear it if u are listening for it...I don't know..hope everything is fine

ohh wow!! that's exactly what it sounds like now that I come to think of it...But what actually causes that lovely heartbeat? Is it really the water pump?

It's posible that your thermostat opens and closes as its supposed to, that would encourage coolant pumping thru the engine.
