Hello everyone - first off I want to say even before posting my first post that you guys have a great resource here. I've been visiting and reading, reading for quite some time.

So on to my question.

I currently drive my dream of a car 2001 300xi - love it to death. So the wife of course comes around and wants a BMW as well. She stumbled on a 1995 325i - with only 44,000 miles on it. I have to say I was "interested" - I saw the car tonight and I swear my jaw had to hit the floor. The car looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. The black paint is swirl free and has more gloss than most new cars. The engine is fully detailed - leather inside is "worn" but healthy if that makes sense. No rust - no scratches - mint. The car has been garaged most of its life - we live in the Northeast and its never seen a snow day.

I'm having my mechanic do a once-over tomorrow hopefully - and now here's the price part. NADA values the car at 7600, KBB - 6359, Edmunds - 5000. He wanted 7,000 - and I offered 6,500. He said he could come down to 6,800. Now I ask the E36 gurus what they think of this deal.

So key points - low mileage (44,000)
- MINT MINT condition
-ALL service records
-$6,800

Anything in particular I should have my mechanic look at?? Thanks a ton guys.

First you have to ask yourself why it is so low mileage, did it spend its whole life in a body shop??? Was it a japanese import (YOU DONT WANT ONE!!). And does the car have its service records, I would never buy a car without them and I recommend you do the same, service history of a car is the most important thing there is.

It sounds to me like it got a new paintjob, you might want to ask why. Just because there is no history on carfax means nothing, do you have any idea how many insurance companies scam people out of their cars, and then fix them and sell them?? Or how many people fix their cars without insurance??

Theres obviously something up if the car is a 95 and only has 44,000 kms, bmw drivers like to drive their cars remember.

Put it up on a lift, check out the control arms and all joints.

Check out the guibo/flex disc.

Take it up to 50mph, brake hard, and check for any shimmy through the steering wheel.

Make sure the sunroof tilts/opens smoothly, no crackling or popping.

All common ...and COSTLY.
