I have had several 325i/is & I think I remember a ground cable that attached somewhere near the front of the block (just below the head) to the drivers' (US) inner fenderwell area. Does anyone have pics? My current '88 325is appears to have no main engine ground (except for the harness ground on the passenger strut tower).

I don't have a picture, but it sounds like you are talking about the grounding point that goes from just behind the alternator to the subframe (near the airbox).

You're thinking about the grounding cable that runs from the oil pan on the driver's side to the frame. If it's missing I'd recommend getting a grounding strap at your local parts house, and bolting it to the threaded hole on the driver's side of the block just below the intake boot, and going back to the point on the frame, as the stud is already there and obvious. I prefer grounding to the block as cast iron will give a better ground than aluminium, and also won't strip if you manage to get your bolt too tight.
