Pinging???? Need help, please!!!!!

So I'm driving along a beautiful windy road, going up the steady incline, and the passenger in my car asks if I am using cheap gas because we both hear a pinging as the car shifts.

I inform her that I have been using Premium 91 since September, I've recently changed the air filter, oil filter, premium synthetic oil, new NGK iridium IX sparks, and a radiator flush. Sure, while some of those additives have nothing to do with pinging, my point is that I take care of my car.

I just cannot explain the continuous pinging.

Is there something else that could be going wrong that could easily be mistaken for pinging?

get the combustion chambers cleaned. i suggest going to a shop that has a motor vac system, or a b&g system. these are the best systems that i have used to help clean carbon buildup.
also, have the knock sensor checked. a malfunctioning sensor may or may not turn the light on, but it will reduce the control over pinging (pre-ignition). the dme uses this as input to retard the timing.

Thank you everyone! So I guess I'll have my Knock Sensor checked...that's probably the issue.

My next question is now much I can expect to pay. I should have mentioned this, but I recently had my 02 sensor checked and I payed about $303 for labor, parts, and all. I am pretty sure I had other things done to the car during that day, so the price wasn't too bad.

Can I expect a similar price?

What year car, 96 and newer will be obd2, if so go to auto zone and have them check it for free ( should put up a code) 95 and older there is a trick with the gas pedel to pull the codes. I am sure there are some here with a bit more know how then me that can tell you how to do this and what codes you get mean
