YOUR thoughts on my wheel idea..?

i got this shot at a car show i went to on the weekend..
ive got a white 318is as shown below, and im about to get the roof painted black and im ditching my chrome grilles for black kidneys.
my aim is basically a sleek kind of black/white look.

i was thinking rims like this, probly 18" but with a white wall on the tyres, instead of the redwall in the photo.

think about it before you post up, will it look ok with my blacktop alpine white coupe?


LEFT = the black rims i want
RIGHT = my car and current rims. (came with the car, pretty bad condition and only 17" :P)

Ok, first of all, an OK from me for black roof and black kidneys.

Now to rims. For the love of god do NOT paint your sidewalls. I would say it's 1930s but you probably wouldn't even understand that. So with that in mind, just don't. If you want a little accent on the black wheel, I suggest white pinstripe sort of like time attack style but in white. Don't really dig the wheels though. Go for something like CSL reps in hyperblack without any stripes. This will look 100 times better trust me on this.


In fact if you are prepared to pay $$$ for custome wheels don't be a fool and order BBS CH or LMs they are best looking aftermarket rims you can put on a bimmer IMHO.

well the roofs already a definate, yeah i imagined the wheels to look sexy...
then i photoshopped it. lol.....
i like the idea of the black wheels though.. just clearly not those ones

like i said BBS CH, BBS LM, can do reps if you want to go cheaper way. CSL hyperblacks. ALl in 18s, not more. All those will look good and agressive and will fit the theme nicely. Black out the wing mirrors as well if you want. Might work well with the roof.

I don't like M3 ones, they are PITA to look into, and look like they dont belong on the car with their shape. Thats just my opinion. So i'd black out the grilles, roof and stock mirrors which I think are nice enough and suit the car. CF look is nice but you will need other bits on the car to pull it off.

Usually if you go CF, you need to do something like CF mirrors, CF lip, CF diffusor, and CF Grilles and CF roundels on top if you have money left. Dont just do CF mirrors, might not be enough.. IF you do, get CF badges at least.

go for blackened CSL reps really, Miro sells them very cheaply and they are good quality. Try modbargains, jslevi and so on. Even ask around from sponsors on this site, im sure they can hook you up wiht a nice deal.

Gives you time to get the 'right' ones and still have the look you are after.

I'm having a similar problem. Still got stock rims but mine are somewhat crapper than yours. Can't decide what to get. I'm liking some of the suggestions in this thread though.

if your looking to sell your current rims and tires give me a price...i still have to lower my bmw put tints and maybe go down to asv euro carparts and buy an m3 sports front bumper

To me, those wheels look too big for the car (too ricey), but definitely much much much better than those other black ones :D. And I love the black roof too. :thumbup:

yeah i shopped em too big lol.. whatever i choose will be 18's. whats on there now is 17's, so look at my sig, and add a tiny bit and thats the real size..

I kinda like the black rims and roof, grills and mirrors. Not crazy about that style of rim though.

HOWEVER, it's your car, and I for one would wait till i found rims that I just loved. Your best bet is to find a local BMW gathering, and compare to them. I have seen so much cool stuff since I have been hanging with the Chicago Bimmer fellows.

but that last one with the red lip would look good if you got the lip painted.

nice amount of dish
tiny bit of chrome to add effect, not too much.
and black to bring out roof / grilles / wings

classic design, should work well with the theme. Don't black out the grille JUST YET, may be it will work well with chrome lips. I imagine you don't have a full chrome grille? if its all chrome, then sure. If its chrome with black slats might be what the doctor ordered. GL.
