Hey guys I just pulled some o2 simulators off of a 97 M3. Will they work on my 328is? They use the same o2 sensor right?

Thanks,
Tres

I believe they will since they run the same OBD-II diagnostics. Do you mind telling me where you got the sims?

Pulled them from a 1997 M3 that got wrecked.

There is a place that sells adjustable ones. google 02 simulator and it is one of the paid links.

I read that some 328's weren't working with them. HMMM.

What does a O2 simulator do? (besides simulate the O2 sensor)

It allows you to do multiple things, it terms of simulate, lets you run a straight pipe or aftermarket headers. With it being OBD-II in most states when it comes to emissions the car will act like nothing is wrong. In my case it will let my o2 sensor continue to get caked in oil from a leaky lifter and it will tell the car its running fine, once I buy them of course.

Ok, that makes sense...

E30E,
I would go with either this one

http://www.o2simulator.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=10

Or the adjustable one

Ohhh wait are you using it for an OBDII or OBDI. Does it have 1 wire or more? How many?

Big-Tex,
If you say wanted to remove your cat converter to make the exhaust less restrictive yet you still wanted to pass emissions you could throw these on instead of your post cat O2s and you'd still pass hopefully if they work for your model. The 328 there is some discussion so I was checking to see if people had good luck or bad.

If you want the science behind them I have read up so I think I can actually make a 4 wire one.

How do they affect fuel economy?

Tres, thanks for the links. I read up more I don't think those sims will work with out splicing wires, which I don't want to do and those sims are for the cat's o2 sensor. I need something for the o2's in the header.

You don't want to use Simulators for those. The Simulators just throw a constant "everything is running a perfect air/fuel misture" signal back. Are you looking for something to control the percentages? If so most of the ones I have seen add a bung to the headers or interface the O2 sensors already there. The precat O2 need to be reading what A/F percentage after combustion so the fuel injection can be controlled.
