Just saw a brief bit on the R&T site about a current NHTSA investigation into 00-01 3ers regarding reports and insurance claims of front passenger side impact airbags deploying for no reason.

I've yet to hear of anyone on any of the forums having this issue, though.

I saw it once or twice posted on .org LONG TIME ago...This is well before you kiddies and young 'ems got your car.

Although I am a "kiddie", the current NHTSA investigation was just initiated on Jan. 31, 2002 (per their web site). Perhaps what you are thinking about is a different issue, but the current investigation is quite new.

Not sure if it was the same problem, but the symptom was the same...side airbags deploying when bumping curbs or even just hitting a big pothole. There was a recall for this a couple of years back. The issue was corrected through a software update.

This sounds new, though.
