Well we've decided to make an adventure of our ED so we will be taking our 7 and 9 year old sons with us. It will be a real adventure as we will be taking delivery of a 330 CIC so everyone will be taking a minimal amount of clothing and we will just keep reminding ourselves that we will not be seeing people again so our looks, etc. will not be that important.
We will be arriving in Munich on August 4 and pick up the car on the 4th or 5th. We then promised our kids that we will take them to Legoland. We then have two days before we go to Venice where we will stay in Lido where I am told you can park a car. We then go to Lake Maggiore for a week of relaxation and day trips. I was considering stopping in Innsbruck and Salzburg on our way to Venice, any other suggestions. After Italy I was thinking of Interlaken, Cologne and Heidelberg before we get to Amsterdam where we leave from, any thoughts or suggestions in this regard. I know the whole things sounds kind of nuts but we thought that it would be a wondeful experience for all of us to enjoy even if we don't speak to each other for a month after we get back.
Nice drives will be fun but with the four of us I have to limit their duration so I need some good places to stop, and good places to overnight. Any and all thoughts are welcome.

We went with my in-laws. (I know!) Four adults in a 5 series for two weeks. (Actually, it was a great time…)

Before the trip, my father in-law went to his local dealer to look at the car. I think part of that was so he could proudly say 'my daughter is buying one of these,' but he went in to gauge the storage room for packing purposes. Bring too much and suddenly you have a major problem at the delivery center!

Sorry, I don't have travel location hints, as we spent most of our time in Germany. The couple days in Stresa Italy were wonderful, though!

I wouldn't worry about parking in Venice, there are some truly gigantic parking structures just as you cross the causeway and the Tragetta (boat-bus) picks you up right there.

Venice is a truly magical place - the extra hours in the evening that you gain from staying there are worth the extra cost.
