View Full Version : Can you jack the X5 on this?

I was rotating the tires today, and I was frustrated looking for a good jacking point. Those of you who work on your cars know you need a place to jack, and a place to put stands, on all four corners.

While under the X5, I noticed this heavy metal bracket right behind the plastic skid plate. Can I lift the entire front end on this?

Looks flimsy to me in the pic, but maybe it's not in real life. :dunno:

In "real life" it looks very strong, almost like it was used in manufacturing to mount the car while they hung it on the assembly line. It is not part of the engine, but part of the subframe/unibody crossmember. Maybe I will bring the X5 to the TechSession next week.

Wow, Em...nice floor in your garage! Is is tiled? It looks great!

BTW, I too would be interested in knowing if that is a jacking boss or if it is something lighter duty.

Yes, I tiled it about a month or two ago. There is a thread somewhere with the details...

New job is great. Sales, however, suck. :thumbdwn:

(But, thanks for asking! :D )

E., can you bring the X5 to TS 7.0 instead of the P-car? I still would love to see the P-car eventually but at TS 7.0 I'm going to document all the different undercarriages of all the different BMWs...So far we've got a Z3, Z4, a few E46es, E46 M3, E36 328is...

Let me know.

I was planning on it. No problem photographing her undersides.

I'm going to Buttonwillow next Friday, so the Porsche will be "under construction" this weekend (some new hoses).

Hi there I too was looking at this and wondered as it looks like a jack point.

So I went to BMW and asked. DON NOT USE THIS TO JACK YOUR CAR>>>>>

This will put the entire weight of the front end on your stearing as I was informed by BMW and will mess it right up.

TThey advise only using the 4 points by the wheals as the car is intended to be lifted by a flat plat or lift due to size. The four lifting points have been reinforced for jacks for wheel changes.

Hope this helps.

Eight years later? I still think it is okay, but I sold that car in 2006...
