Well it started as a small rust spot...so I decided to 'take care of it'...lerned I needed some equipment I didn't have so I bought it, compressor, spray gun and grinders wire wheels, etc...all from Harbor freight except the compressor (Sears)...

So here goes...
In the beginning

First I removed the inner door panel and the exterior trim...then I took a wire wheel to the affected area and got it to bare metal
and treated it with RUST Converter

let it cure until it turned BLACK

primed the affected area

Then sanded and leveled the whole door, finally sanding with 600 grit paper

After the door felt and looked perfectly smooth then I sprayed and cleared the entire door

Waited 2 days for the clear to cure...
then went to color sand taping off the door edges so you don't burn through... color sanding is to level clear coat and make the paint like a mirror...

Reassembled the door and did a buff and Wax...buff with 3M rubbing compound and followed up with Meguiars Show car Glaze...

Wax with Meguiars NXT2.0 and Done

In the beginning... the rust was drivin me nuts...
http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll332/Adrenalin540/Beginning.jpg

Step one ...remove the door panel, and make sure everything 'on the otherside is ok...sometimes you never know...
http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll332/Adrenalin540/Insidethedoor.jpg

So obviously someone was in there before but nothing gone through thank god...I did apply some rust remover and some rust converter and primed it.,but didn't get another pic...

Then I took a wire wheel to the rust and went to town...making sure when I got done there was not 'rust' in the area...so I went to bare metal all the way around the original rust spot
http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll332/Adrenalin540/Step1.jpg

After I was confident the rust was ok on the back side, and the front side was removed, and cleaned then I put some rust converter on it...and let it set up so it turned black and it was hard...then I sanded it with 220 and primed it...sanded so the primer had something to 'stick' to.

Then, I masked off the entire door all the way around, leveled and sanded the whole door and primerd it...then..I sanded it with 600 till it was perfectly smooth...and wiped it down 3x with water...

Then I applied 3 coats of Titanium silver I got from my local auto paint supplier...
was really worried at this point because the color didn't even seem close 'at all'...so I was really sweatin here...
http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll332/Adrenalin540/Sprayandcleardoor.jpg

Then I shot 3 coats of clear and let it set up over night...removed all the tape, and pulled it out of the garage...and started to do the final color sand...this part also made me nervous...the door color was close, and the shine was acceptable...now here I am going to sand it...that means putting scratches in that finish...

So I started with 800 sanding and wiping, squeeging, spraying with water, KEEP the Bucket clean, if you wouldn't drink out of the bucket the water isn't clean enough...keep the sandpaper clean if you drop it...throw it away. and use clean fresh water...so the emphasis here is on CLEAN....

Block sand the whole door with the 800 first be careful not to go all the way through the clear...but far enough that you 'level the paint',

Same with 1000, block sand the entire door...same clean emphasis, and make sure you get that surface perfectly level, and be careful around edges, I actually taped mine off for this part...paint on the edges is lighter so you must be careful here...

Then, same thing with 2000, sand lightly keep paper wet, clean water this surface should be very smooth...

Then hit it with some 3M perfect it, or rubbing compound, with the buffer set at about 1800 RPM, till you can see the shine....the scratches will disappear and the shine will come...after that hit it with some meguiars polish compound, it will look very nice when done put a clean pad on the buffer and hit it with some Meguiars show car glaze...it will look like this when done...
