Well, I bought my CPO 06 325i last October. Since I moved to NJ, officially, on December (Had MA license until then), I had no idea about the inspection and sticker.

Today, I got the ticket because of no inspection sticker. To be honest, I had no idea about the sticker because I thought the dealer would take care all the paperworks with DMV, including inspection if needed. (That's what MA dealers do) No one at the dealer told me anything about the inspection at the time of delivery, so I thought everything is done --- until today.

Is this normal? Should I have a car inspected by myself once I bought it? Or the dealer should have taken everything about it? I am going to the dealer tomorrow, but I want to have anyone in the area with the experience.

Thanks!

All NJ dealers must guarantee their inventory to pass NJ DMV inspection.
If you purchased your car used from a NJ dealer, and it doesn't have an inspection sticker on it, you are supposed to get a pink DMV card stating you have 2 weeks to get a DMV inspection and that pink card is your temporary pass.

If you bought your car out of state and register it in NJ, they give you the pink card as well.

Thanks for the info. Funny thing is, I never got any pink card. So I assume the dealer should have taken care the inspection, OR they simply forgot. How professional they are!!

The car must pass inspection inorder for a dealer to sell you the car. It may be that they knew it would not. I would go back to them and try to get them to pay for the summons. At the least they have to get the car inspected for you...
