I am located in Florida and just paid for my car last night. I pick it up on the 24th at the Welt. My dealer does not seem to know how to handle the tags. The finance person was brand new. I do not want tags issued if I will not even see the car until sometime in September. I think it is ridiculous to have to pay for tags and insurance for a car that is not yet in the states. Any Florida ED people, please tell me how it worked at your dealership. Also one last thing. The car is being delivered to the performance center so I guess I need to get tags in FL and bring them with me.

They ask for insurance give them whatever insurance you have on your current car as it needs to be on the paperwork, and make sure you have insurance when it arrives in the states. For tags they seem to want to take care of it for you, but it's by your birthday anyway not the month you register. If you have tags to transfer you will save a bunch of money but probably still be charged $150-200 and then refunded the difference

I take delivery the 22nd at the welt and my B-day is in July so it really doesn't matter if they do the tags now or in Sept. The only way it might affect you is if they register the car now and your B-day is in a few months. Then you will have to pay again.:( Fl allows you to do your tags 90 days out and I have had a few rig it for an even longer period so I wouldn't have pay the registration until the following year. Maybe you can do the same. As far as having the tag for PCD redelivery, I plan on slapping my Euro plate back on for the drive home at the very least and probably longer:)

Seriously, you don't have to worry about it until your center gets the manufactuer's certificate of origin (birth certificate for the car) at about the same time your car arrives at the PC.
They should be able to give you a temp tag prior to your PCD and then the tags can get taken care of once you get back. No big deal.
DO NOT ACTIVATE YOUR INSURANCE. It's not necessary. Activate insurance on the day of PCD.

Thanks Adrian. I did not kow they could not register without the certificate of origin. I just did not want to have to pay for insurance on the car before it was in my possesion. Since it will be a few months, it wuold have been a few hundred dollars.

Actually, I did the paperwork yesterday and got my tag and registration. I will have my insurance start upon redelivery at the PCD. Hope this helps.

I thought DMV confirms insurance after you get tag.
