Hello. I'm trying to get BMW to cover the repair but they said since I'm not the original owner the best they can do for me is 25% of the cost of the part. Has anyone else had better luck anywhere else? It seems to me from doing some research that BMW has fixed this part a million times over for a million other people, why not me?
It's a 1995 740i
Any suggestions anyone? THANK YOU!

When you say BMW, did you contact BMWNA? Or do you mean a local dealer? Did you follow the steps as described here? BMWNA and Pixels (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83256)

If you did not, you may have less luck. In addition to not being the original owner, the older E38 may give you less leverage. Also, if you have not owned it long, and if you don't/haven't owned other BMWs, you may get a smaller offer. It has been a good faith offer, not a recall or warranty, so the offer may have changed over time.

I've been waiting to post until I actually have the repair performed, but I contacted BMWNA, and followed the steps outlined by Mark.
BMWNA approved the cost of the part(s), and I will pay for the labor. I've just been too busy w/ my business to get this accomplished.
I'll follow up later. I was not technically the first owner, but I've driven the car since new. (friend/ coworker car)
This is my second 7 series. Diplomacy may help, not that you didn't. They review your case, then make a determination. Good luck!

I too wrote to bmwna about bad pixels on my 1998 704i that I owned for about 2 months. They offered me 50% off the part, which is $670 for new insturment panel plus $240 labor, thats $455 out of my pocket. I found a web site that repairs your panel for $299 with 1 yr warrenty: or $399 with 3 yr warrenty. The site is vdorepair.com . Has anyone dealt with them?
