I had a subaru legacy with sti upgrades that got totaled a month ago :( I have a new job that is a block away from where I live...so i want to replace it with something fun...I was thinking a 993 porsche but a M Coupe seems very cool and unique.

I'm looking at the classifieds here and placed a wtb post, also looking at craigslist, roadfly, autotrader, cars.com....any other suggestions or things I should look out for? I will carefully go through the faq before i pull out my wallet to buy.

Thx a Ton!!!

Good luck- you mean VF39, TMIC and etc... you can make a Legacy a 12 second car pretty cheap. The Z3M coupe is an awesom car- good luck and glad you are okay.

The m-coupes seem to be holding their value pretty good. Also german cars require premium gas which is not so good. Here in mn. were about 4.10 a gallon but that seems to change by the hour!!! Good luck with your search, lots of helpful info here, keep us posted on what you decide.

Look out for the subframe problem. Other than that, very solid car.

Your previous car is very forgiving to drive and will put up with many input errors. Just be aware, driving a coupe spiritedly is akin to playing with a baby rattle snake. You must have fast hands. Plenty info on things to watch for. First decide if you want a S52 or S54 motor. Be patient and enjoy the search. It's part of the experience of owning a coupe.

If I were in town this weekend, I'd offer to let you drive mine. I may be around next weekend though.

Mine's an S52, if you're looking at 993's, no reason not to look at S54 powered M Coupes too. Both are lots of fun, but S54's are more fun!:)

Mine's got 106k miles, still looks and drives like new. I still haven't found anything to replace it with, and it still puts a smile on my face any time I drive it. Since moving here, I feel like I should have a convertible, but nothing stands out as being anywhere near as entertaining as my M Coupe. Watch for the subframe issue and regular service and decide which engine and colors you want and you can find one, it just takes a little patience. I'm still waiting for a Phoenix Yellow or Laguna Seca Blue S54 car with black interior.

I have an s52 mcoupe here in santa monica, if you want to check it out at some point...I am going to have to let it go one day, but I don't know when...almost did after driving the new m3 for a weekend...it's been through a lot since I got it, and it's pretty much a new car (which unfortunately won't raise it's value much, i guess)...

new engine
new clutch and throwout bearing and flywheel (i think)
new driveshaft
new secondary air pump
new drive belts

lemme think, yeah that's about it...so basically new car :)

It still puts a smile on my face, despite the fact that I have a Lotus Elise as well. My problem is that I also have a kid on the way, so two 2-seaters isn't quite practical. Anyway, it's a lovely car, and you won't have to worry about losing yourself in the parking lot, which could happen here with a latemodel porsche or bww...I agree about the S54 being the desirable one though.
