View Full Version : Dual Climate doesn't really offer dual?

Hi all,
Just picked up my car from the Performance Center and had a long drive back to Philly. Along the way, my wife decided to boost up the temperature on her side because she was getting cold. It's normal for me to drive at 68 on my side, 72 or 73 on her side. In my Audi it was not a problem.. But no matter what we did, her side wouldn't warm up! Do you think there's something wrong with our system, or is it just sh**y compared to VW/Audi?
By the way, I tried the blue/red knob thingy ... I put it on red but then my side got warm, and in the middle it did nothing (I expected if it was centered, it would be neutral, but it didn't happen).

Well, given that the temperature difference between the two sides is relatively minimal (20°C versus 22,5°C), did you expect hot air to blow out of the vents? I really doubt that the climate is going to make a noticeable difference. Perhaps more AC was directed elsewhere instead of the face vents on her side.

In the Audi, the temperature set is not what is blown, but rather what the car's interior should be at - like a home thermostat. So yes, when she commanded her side to be 5 degrees warmer, she'd get warm air as it tried to increase her side of the car to that new temperature.

Yes, that is how it should work. The temperature set is the desired cabin temp. Tell you the truth, I've hardly tried setting the passenger side different from the driver yet. My wife did turn it up a bit once but I don't recall the result. I would expect warmer air coming from the upper vents if she turns it up 5 or so degrees. The blue/red knob in the center is an override only for the center vent. The center position should just leave the air temperature what it would be without any adjustment.

Never let your wife ride in your car. :)

Never let your wife ride in your car. :)
That might result in the car being sold pursuant to a liquidation order from the family (divorce) court....

Don't have E90 yet but on my E39, it works if 10F+ higher than one side.

I haven't noticed HVAC to be a particularly strong suit with the propeller brand.
The fan is loud, you have to give them that.

Mine gets plenty cold in Houston heat. However, I haven't played with the dual feature. We have dual air on all our vehicles and my wife still just shuts the vents on her side if she gets cold. She's old school that way.

Ours works just fine. DH has his on 68 and I have had mine on 73 and mine was definitely warmer.

It doesn't work in mine. The temperature delta needs to be rather large to make a difference. Audi defintiely works better.

I remember in my E60 I used it a couple times and the passenger side was warmer than my side.. Seemed to work well.

it works but you also must consider that the system also has a sensor that adjusts based on the sun...
In other words if one side of the car is adjusted warmer on the dial but on the sunny side of the car the system will counter act the sun by making more cold air on that side of the car to hit the dialed in temperature.... It works well in the E90 and E61, BTW it is much better than the system in our 2007 A4, there is no comparison but the Audi is quieter until 2 hours when it blasts you with cold air to wake you up (annoying).

The climate control in the E60 is much better. That little wheel is pretty annoying, what is the purpose of that if you set a temperature?
