View Full Version : Z4 M, is this clutch pedal a joke?

This thing has more side to side slop then any car I have ever owned. M cars are supposed to be nice and tight, then they throw this in there? What a joke.

Does anyone make an aftermarket bushing or something to cure this?

The 335 wasn't?

335 uses the over center spring.
Z4 uses an extension spring which is better IMO.
Both use the same bushings.

I don't notice any issue w/ side-to-side slop on my '06. Check the mounts and bushings to make sure everything is tight... the car does have it's share of issues w/ loose bolts.

Must be a loose bolt, no way in hell you guys wouldn't notice this.

Not happening for me either. Sounds like a dealer visit is in your future. Let us know what they do in case some of ours start loosening up over time.

Mine's good too, check the pedal or take it to the dealer and have them do it.

No issues here, my car was built on a Wednesday though ;)

No problem here. In fact our clutch pedal is MUCH stiffer and tighter than the new M3. A friend of mine with an e92 M3 drove my car (CDV deleted) and said "your clutch is so stiff, it feels like a race car"

I have to chime in. Mine is also very loose and wobbles side to side. Compared to the old miata it might as well be a dangling... well you know.

Mine also wobbles side-to-side if you wiggle it with your foot. I wasn't sure if that was design or error.

I think people are confusing stiffnes with slop. I havn't had a chance to get under and check it out yet, but I'm hoping somethings loose because its pretty bad. Clutch pedals should go up and down and thats it.

Besides, the clutch in this car is not even stiff, It's stiffer then my 335, but not stiff by any means for a sporty car. I expected that since it's BMW though, they can only go so far back to basics.

Being plastic and the stock bushings it does have some slop.
With the center over spring normally on the M's it takes a shift to the left with time.
The Z4 uses the extension spring.

Z3 link shows what the stock bushings look like.

I'm not sure if my wobbling clutch pedal is normal or not, but I know that it hasn't really effected the drivability that much. I'm not gonna lose sleep over it if it's normal... but if it is fixable I'll fix it

That's what I'm difuring ours is like. They have to make a replacement. I'll check the PN sometime and see what other vehicles its shared with and check if thye have replacements for them.

Not sure what PN you mean. All of the different pedals use the same bushings.

If you get the specs, maybe you can get a machine shop to make you an aluminum bushing, zero play  but probably lots of vibrations and need of lube :thumbdwn:

I messed around with mine today, and no noticeable wiggle at all, I don't think "it's supposed to be like that".
