Only the Euro 3.2s have dual vanos.

Haven't ever heard of somebody needing to refubish vanos seals.

read in the e39 forum, every VANOS unit made has seals that wear out after 20-40K miles. www.besiansystems.com he makes a repair kit, I have done a 530i dual VANOS mpg went up, power came back and noises went away. Also Dr. VANOS has explanations as well and makes a kit. I was asking because I plan to do it to whichever M3 I get. I have an e34 with a single VANOS M50, I have ordered the kit, just waiting for the BMW cam tool and crankshaft locking tool

you are right http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BG93&mospid=47488&btnr=11_1480&hg=11&fg=15 it is a single VANOS unit which can have the seal repair done, and the benefits are night and day. Every person on this forum can agree. An exhaust cam tool, cam locking tool and a flywheel locking tool are needed I believe for the job

Since those tools were needed I believe I paid somewhere in the ball park of 1500 for that job done on my e36 m3 from an indy mechanic.

since you are in Austin, why don't you just get Chris (Dr Vanos) to do it for you?

why have somone else do it when you can do it yourself, the tools are $130 on eBay

What are you going to do with the tools after you are done? I would guess that Chris would be less than $130.

Yeah, I'll do the install for $100 (with a kit purchase), or you can rent the tools for $30.

in my humble opinion, working on BMW's is part of the joy of owning them. However I didnt realize that the infamous Dr. Vanos is loacated in Austin. Chris do you ever go to the monthly Bimmerfest get togethers?? I have emailed you before about my single VANOS M50. Maybe I could buy your lunch sometime and pick your brain and talk BMW's
