View Full Version : 1998 740I Wont Start. HELP!!!!

HI all, newbee here on the forums!!
I need help, my 1998 740I wont start, heres what happens.
When i turn the key i get a click, Battery is good.
iam using the cars battery that is in the trunk, i hook up jumper cables to it and bring the leads to the front of the car and hook it up to the jump terminals in the engine bay. Then she starts fine.. I did a battery test on it and its strong...

HELP THANKS

Not sure about the E38 but the earlier BMWs had one or more fusible links in the wires from the battery to the circuits up front. They have been known to break.

Check the large wires coming from the positive terminal on the battery for a lump with shrink sleeving over it. It/They should be within a foot of the battery. That is probably the problem if you can bypass that wire with a jumper and it works.
