I'm looking at a 2006 325i with sport package. I couldn't take delivery of the car this weekend as the driver's side front tire had severe wear on the outside edge. Ther are going to replace both front tires and do an alignment.

The car has 19K miles. It had the Bridgeston tires.

Would anyone consider this a dealbreaker for this car?

I don't understand your question- if they are going to replace and align the vehicle, what would be the dealbreaker? Are you concerned about additional defects causing the uneven wear?

Assuming OEM is RFTs, as I understand it, 19K mi is around average for lifespan of RFTs.

I did have some additional concerns but the car appears really clean with clean carfax. I'm just being really picky. As long as I get confirmaiton that they did the alignment I should be ok. That should show up in the maintenance history, right? I read a lot about the Bridgestone rfts...I guess that is something you deal with until time to replace with something different.

If it's an '05, then runflats were optional.. Are you sure it has runflats?

If it were me, I'd ask them to replace all four with non-runflats.. Non-runflats are cheaper.. Not half the price, but I'd even pony up a couple hundred extra to get four new non-runflats..

The car has a spare tire, right?

an 06 325i is an E90, and does not have a spare.

i dont think its a dealbreaker, worse case, wear them out then replace them on your own.
its not like runflats are going to destroy your marriage, impregnate your cat, and put dead fish in your shoes.

they're just tires. you're overthinking this.

I'm replacing all four of my OEM Bridgestone RE050A RFTs at 18K miles for 960AS PPs. Made the decision after getting a nail in my right rear and some cupping in my two front tires. Front what I'e read of reviews on tire rack, the OEM RFTs don't last very long... at best 25K miles. Plus, many people complained about the ride comfort and noise. I also believe many with sports package settings have had issues with cupping/uneven tire wear. So, I'm happy to switch to non-RFTs. The thing that bothers me is that I've gotten the alignment done when the cupping was noticed, and I've gotten several different conflicting stories on when/ how badly I needed to replace the tires... The BMW shop told me I needed to replace all my tires cause the bad alingment had worn all my tires down... Tires Plus tech told me that while there was cupping on the inner of the front tires, I still had 6/32 tread-depth and probably could go a while longer on these tires - my rear tires had more tread, about 8/32. Another tire tech told me the cupping has left me 20% of the tread at the point of the cupping, and he wouldn't advise what to do except to tell me that they had cupped pretty good. He further said it's up to me and it mainly depended on how much I could withstand the noise and ride comfort distraction caused by the cupping. I can't tell about the ride comfort and noise, but I am really concerned about safety so I decided to just switch the whole set out. I've never changed out enough tires to compare, but this new set cost me over $1100. And my size and type of tire never seems to qualify for the specials and discounts that many tire centers offer... All in all, maybe not a deal breaker, but such high costs for tires (my OEMs which only lasted me 18K miles plus cost me alignment), tires are considerable. In anycase, if my new set of tires ride better than my RFTs, I'll be a happy (happier) mug.
