Alrighty, I've decided to try out a set of the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s.

When I look up this tire at TireRack in my size, there are 5 results:

What's the difference?

Note the listing notations just below the size. One version is extra load, one is BMW OE, one is Mercedes OE, the other is the standard version of the tire. Unfortunately neither Michelin nor BMW tell us the differences between these versions. If it were me, I would select either the BMW version or the standard aftermarket version.

Thanks Gary.

I called Michelin to ask them. They claimed that the difference is with the diameter of the tires. But your specs are the same for all of these tires :dunno:

The agent recommended that I purchase the BMW version as well, but he had no idea why and couldn't confirm that the BMW version was designed for any particular model. It just sounded right since I had a BMW.

These tires are all the same size so no difference in diameter. The BMW designation is not specific for a particular model of BMW, but rather was used by BMW as original equipment.

So I bought the BMW version last night. They are $286 vs. $275 for the non-BMW version. Did I just waste $44 bucks on your site?

Unfortunately neither Michelin nor BMW will release information on how the tires are different from the standard version. The BMW version might be a slightly different compound or construction that is better suited to your car, but since we have no way of knowing for sure I can't say.
