engine problem

I have picked up my car from Germany, and on my way home to romania, when the car was 600km old, engine yellow sign appeared and error message "engine problem" about 2 times, for a short time.I had less than a quarter tank of fuel when it shown this.so I stopped and filled up the tank, and since then the message was gone, and haven't reapeared, but I fill like the engine is not working properly(a little noisy up to my opinion) I went to bmw, and they said it sounds ok, and that I needed to be scheduled for a full inspection for more details.they said it was probably from the fuel, it happens very often here in romania, because fuel is low quality, but it shouldn't happened in germany.until it apeared I hadn't drove faster than 140km/h(about 90mph).any thoughts?

Was the fuel tank cap tight? Sometimes, the emissions sensor will trip if the cap is leaky.

I cannot tell that, sorry.I belive it was, because i hadn't noticed any difference
