What are the major complaints drivers have regarding stock Continental tires with the Sport package? I've noticed a lot of play at dead center with colder temperatures. Not sure if this is a problem with the tires

They're great tires in the dry(not as good as Pilots, but still more than adequate for the car.) However, introduce some water and you've got to be very careful with them as they loose traction and hydroplane very easily. I learnt this the hard way.

I hated my contis, ugly and handle not so good..once I got my pilots.... everything is great, looks and handle. BMW should use these tires standard, but of course who am I to say.. :thumbdwn:

Dunno...Loved the Conti Tourings on my wife's car...All season tire, quiet as a mouse, and soft as cotton. Very, very comfortable tires. Sporty they're not, but for my wife it'll suffice.
Wears very slow too, at 20,000 miles it still has over 50% tread life.
I think the majority of complaints about the ContiSport Contacts are that it's not Michelin...The Michelin Pilot Sports are grippier wet or dry than the Conti's, and they tend to wear longer as well.

Not clear on what people mean by grippiness. Do you feel it in day to day driving or at the track? Did you notice any improvement in steering responsiveness after the switch to Pilots or S-03's? I know Hack loves his tires!

Mine came with Dunlop 2000E's - terrible tires. Replacing them with Pilots.

Getting through break-in quickly! About 650 miles so far... more than half the way there! Thanks for asking!

I just don't think they have much bite :dunno:
My mom had them on her car until one exploded (http://www.m5fanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=436&highlight=Conti) I had driven it enough to realize that it was weak on grip in wet and drive. I have driven her car once since the Contis were replaced with RE730s; the cornering was much better. Not as good as my S-03s though :thumb:

I hate the the ContiTourings on my car. Mushy, poor steering, no traction... They suck. :( They'll be worn out by 15K at mosat, though. :) Probably less.

Pilots seem very good in the grip department (and yes you do notice in daily driving).
One negative I noticed tho, they take some time to warm up, and their grip is not very good on dry while cold.

they have releases a contisport 2 tire. i doubt that's an improvement since all three, the sport, the sport2, and the CH95 are all grand touring tires.
soft sidewalls and biased toward quiet.
i would guess you'd notice an immediate improvement ASAP by buying the (expensive) pilot sports or S-02's or S-03's. the bridgestones have gone down in price and at least on the track, have much better grip than pilot sports.
hope this helps.
manufacturers save lots of money on tires. :-)
mike, PM325xiT, and i all know this firsthand. how much are conti CH95 new? $75. now, do we really want that sort of tire on a 36k car? (sorry, i think PM has eagle RSAs).

michelin is french......dunlop and continental have german factories adjacent to dingolfing and regensburg. michelins are more likely to come on z3's because michelin made a factory next to spartanburg.
but i'm guessing most cars from germany will be shod with dunlop and continental (2 german-centric companies).

I have the 02's and I'm lookin at gettin tires soon. I've read all the reviews btw the 03's and michelins....how do you like the 03's compared to your last pair (what were they?). Heard 03's are a little more noisy on the road? :dunno:
I love my 02's...

I had Conti's on my VW Passat, and frankly thought they were horrible tires. Had Conti's on several VW products. Had Michelin Pilots on my 325i (sport), and they were sort of okay. They were stolen along with the Type 44 alloys, and I replaced them with Pirelli PZero Assimetricos. Love those tires, when they were new. Good turn in, grippy, quiet, and not punishing in terms of ride. However, pretty soon, got to the point where I was getting slip in rapid turns and around traffic circles -- either I was driving even faster, or the tires were reducing in their grip.
Michelin's wore well (until they were stolen), and the Pirelli's seem to be wearing well too.
