OK, so my clutch slave was leaking badly. I had Advance Autoparts order me a new one that I picked up today. I installed it, opened the bleed valve, added brake fluid, waited for it to start dripping from the bleed, then had my wife depress the clutch, I closed the bleed, had her pull the clutch pedal up, opened the bleed, had her press the clutch and repeat until clear fluid was coming out of the bleed. I then closed the bleed. I sat in the drivers seat and pressed the clutch down. There was some resistance, but the pedal didn't come back up on it's own. I pulled the pedal up and it stayed. I depressed it again and the same thing happened. I depressed it one more time and heard a pop from under the car, and the pedal had no feeling at all. I pulled the slave off to check it and the rubber diaphragm was completely blown out. Was it defective, or did I "eff" it up somehow?

Thanks. I was actually using that article and the Haynes manual for reference when changing the slave. I just wanted to make sure I didn't blow out the slave, and that it was indeed defective.

I wonder if that's common. I bought a non-OEM replacement slave for my 325is (long before I worked for BMW) and it was defective out of the box too.

Dunno. Replacement will be here today, so we'll see. I really hope it was defective, as I don't want to blow another one, AND, I really miss my car :)
