Checking the Check Engine Light

Hello! I purchased a 1998 318i 4 door sedan 2 years ago. The "so called" reputable dealer had pulled the check engine light!!! Found out on this years inspection that it was out or gone. Does anyone have the schemtic or layout of which bulbs are for what light? I found replacment bulbs with socektes on ebay for a buck a piece. So I figured I would install lamps in all the sockets. But which one is the check engine light???? Or how can I get to the light or circuit to verify that it is working.

It wont pass inspection unless i can get the light to light up. The scan tool says the check engine light is on but no lamp!

Now that is something I should have thought of. I have the perfect led tool for the job. Does any one know which wire I can tap into for the CEL...Thanks
