I dont know about the rest of you, but my rear speaker shelf is not the original color any longer, it is very faded and i was thinking about taking it out and re-covering it, what is the best way to this, and on another note, while the rear shelf is removed would it be easy to replace the rear speakers? if anyone has a link to a DIY, or a simple walk-threw would be great, :)
Remove pillars and it should just pop up and out if I remember correctly

i'll make an attempt this weekend, I am trying to make up my mind on if I want to dye it or re-wrap it.
There is a row of plastic "fir tree" rivets uderneath the top of the back seat. If you have the flip down seats, you'll see it. If not, you'll need to remove the back rest portion of the seat. The rivets secure a metal rail. Pull out the rivets (get new ones at NAPA or Autozone) lift off the rail & the shelf will be free to pull out. Try to do it without removing the "C" pillars, they're a PITA to get back in correctly.
Speakers are right under the shelf.
Look at realoem.com, in sections: seats & trim you'll see how it's put together:

Try spray carpet dye, or vinyl dye. It is a synthetic fiber, regular dyes won't work. I tried it many years ago, wound up replacing shelf. sh!tty looking again, purple color. Fugg it, old car.

New-b but I just pulled my rear shelf and this is how I did it. I removed pillar covers (carefully) and used a pair of needle nose pliers to get the plastic rivets out, careful or you will rip the rear shelf. Don't ask me how I know. When putting the pillar covers back on, put the clips in the slots first then snap the covers back in. Seemed easier this way.
As far as the speakers, both of my rears need replaced, looks like you can just take the plastic grilles off and access them there. I removed my shelf to get the old tint off that looked like crap. Made it easier to get to the very bottom of the window.
