Gary,

I know that Bilstein Sport and Koni adjustables are the preferred shock for HR Sport springs on an 1991 318i e30, but what if you wanted a bit more compliant ride? Would Bilstein TC work? Or would the stiffer spring rate overtax the shocks?

Just looking for a middle ground that lowers the car but allows a more supple ride across sharp, inner-city pavement irregularities. At slow speeds Bilstein sports are absurdly rough; Koni's are better, but if I wanted an even more compliant ride? The roads in inner-city Portland, Oregon, are a symphony of broken pavement, shallow chuckholes, and uneven transitions.

The car: 1991 318i 4-door. All front end suspension bits and ball joints are new.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. Gary

The Bilstein would likely ride more firmly compared to the Koni's adjusted to their full soft setting. For maximum ride quality with this setup we'd suggest the Koni shocks set to full soft.

Gary at Tirerack,

I know Bilstein SPORTs would be stiffer than the Koni's on full soft, but what about the Bilstein TOURING CLASS, which are supposed to be similar to OE Boges. Whaddya think?

Or I could just run my tires at 10 psi. :)

Thanks, Gary

I'm not familiar with a Bilstein Touring Class shock, sorry.
