All,

I'm new, hoping to buy an 09 335i this winter. Anybody willing to throw out suggestions for the "best dealer" in NYC?

Thanks.

Opinions I'm sure will vary but I've had pleasant experiences both times I purchased from habberstad.

Dealer, not detailer.

My vote goes to Denville or Hunterdon, both in NJ.

They are the biggest, who did you deal with?

Go straight to JMK BMW in Springfield, ask for Caz-- assuming you want to be treated with respect and get the best price. On the other hand, if you want to be ripped off, go to Difeo.

I go to Don Doria at BMW of Darien in CT. No "you will have to make an appointment BS" with test drives. If you show up wanting to test drive a 1 Series Vert on a Saturday, you get to test drive a 1 Series Vert. Manhattan BMW doesn't even have a 1 series available to test drive. Apparently if you look young (which I don't) they won't ignore you (which apparently happens in Manhattan). If you look young and tell them your Dad will be in to pay for the car later, they believe you because in Darien, thats what happens (I have seen a few schools kids driving Porsches).

The other thing I like about Darien BMW is they give you an appropriate service loaner (if you drive a 3 series, the loaner is a 3 series). They don't give you a Ford Focus.

Rallye

Hahaha

I used to think so. But I bought a car from there, and then my CA left and the service went downhill. Once they have your money they don't give a **** about you, and aren't too helpful. But we'll see... my CA was great, so maybe I've just dealt with ****ty people since he left. I'm willing to give them another chance.

Rallye

Yes, the new Rallye location is huge. I wonder how many used cars they have on the parking lot. Anyway, you'll need to walk in Rallye with Donald Trump to get their attention.

I'll second a recommendation for Don Doria at Darien. I've bought from him twice, and was a pleasure to deal with both times.

I'll follow up with props to my SA, Jeff Grkinich, who has always taken good care of me.

The dealership itself is finalizing a remodeling, so it's kind of a mess right now. Even after the remodel, it won't huge by any means. They just don't have a lot of room in their current location. But they've always treated me well, so despite the fact that I live closer to Bridgeport, I go to Darien for Sales and Service.

One more +1 for JMK. Lucas is an awesome CA - I did my BMW European Delivery through him, and he made the process a breeze.

I loved my experience at Rallye, but it was mainly do to my CA, and the fact that they had tons of allotments.. He has sinced moved to another dealership.

Consider buying via CT or NJ dealers (depending on where you're located) in order to use MSDs. Even if you register in NY state.

Try Bobby Kaufman at Greenwich (CT) or Tony Mancuso at JMK (NJ)

JMK in Springield NJ handled my entire purchase transaction in a first class manner. Adrian Turek was my CA and he was very open and fair and very knowledgable about the features of Idrive. I highly recommend him

Sorry for my ignorance- what's an "MSD" and why isn't it available in NY?

Thanks.

Multiple Security Deposits.

You can put down up to 7 MSDs and they each reduce your MF by .00007 IIRC. There is a sticky'd thread at the top of the Ask A Dealer section which discusses MSDs. Long story short, if you have some cash upfront, MSDs are a good way to use them (down payments are not).

Dealers in NY state apparently cannot accept any deposit above some 3 figure amount (think it's like 750). However, IIRC this doesn't prevent you from leasing via a dealer in another state using MSDs and registering in NYS.

My advice is shop around for best prices and then order the car from the closest dealer to where you live.
