Is the wood real? I've read it (and heard it) debated many times. Not knowing for sure I always stayed out of it. Today I was poking around on the BMWUSA comparison site and discovered that the final answer is yes. It's genuine wood.

But it is very thin -- I have a number of trim pieces off the car and it appears to me to be about 3mm or so -- 5mm total but laminated to a 2mm or so plastic base. And then it has a protective clear coat on top as well, so you cannot actually touch the wood -- unless you sand it, which would clearly be a big mistake! :yikes:

Veneer is what I expected. My wifes 1954 Lane Waterfall cedar chest is fine veneer over cedar. The natural, random grain, of real wood is what I admire. Wood grain plastic is never the same.
