Hi Folks,

I've perused through the related threads, but was wondering if anyone has had any experience with a Z3 top from The Convertible Top Guys (http://www.convertibletopguys.com). They offer both the OEM and StayFast versions along with a "detailed installation manual". I've read through several DIY instructions/sites and it is no doubt a tedious, time consuming job - but its not rocket science either.

Thanks,
Bill

Any non-oem top will probably not have a replaceable zip-in rear window.

I have only ever replaced mine with a new OE top, so I can't comment on the quality of the brand you're asking about. I will say, however, that the couple hundred dollars that you would save by going with an aftermarket top versus an OE top will probably not outweigh the extra trouble they will be to get installed. You will also lose the ability to replace the rear window. In a job like this, the labor can be more expensive (weather it's yours or a shop's labor) than the part.

The OEM top is less than a $100 more, so yes I can easily justify the costs/savings. Plus, as you mentioned, I have an extra OEM rear window that I plan on keeping around for replacement in a few years.

Thank you for your comments!

The most expensive top on the link you posted above is $445. A new OE top will be closer to $1050.

Sorry, I wasn't clear about that. BavAuto (www.bavauto.com) sells an OEM top for about $480. Based on the specs, it seems that both "OEM" tops are the same - though I would spend the extra couple of bucs for BavAuto's version.
