Alright, I'm going to keep moving through my list here guys. lol Next up is a question about Bluetooth. I'm a huge supporter of this technology. My wife and I have been using BT headsets for some time now, and rely heavily on them while driving. In fact, unless it's an emergency, I won't even talk to her if she's holding her phone while driving. Anywho, I have my Blackberry hooked up to the BT in the Z4. Everything works perfectly, and the auto-mute/speaker ring feature is awesome. No more missed calls! That being said, the sound quality on the other side leaves a bit to be desired. It seems like they installed an omnidirectional instead of a unidirectional microphone as the caller can hear anything and everything that is going on in the cabin. This might not be an issue in a Lexus, but there's plenty for the other person to hear in the Z4. Has anyone found a way to isolate, or minimize background noise from being picked up? Turn signals, engine roar, air conditioner and everything else is heard during a conversation. I tried taping the sides of the mic cover to see if that would make any difference, but obviously that didn't work very well. So I was just hoping that someone has found a way to improve on this great feature. Has BMW improved the mic itself recently? Any ideas?

I have an '06 just like you. And people i'm talking too have the same complaint that you do: lots of background noise. And yes, the top is up. I don't even bother with the top down. I found this: but I haven't looked into it. Maybe someone else here can shed some light:

WIth my 08 M Coupe people complain to me about not being able to hear me as well. So not isolated to the 06 model year... Just poor electronics in our cars I think.

Was hoping to read some better news, but can't say I'm surprised. Shame since it's so nicely integrated into the car though. Jeff, I actually found that new mic last night while researching, but I don't think that will work with our systems. My wifes 3 has the mic overhead and it looks just like that. Ours is mounted on the steering column and looks like this. (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=DU53&mospid=49423&btnr=84_0625&hg=84&fg=30) For $36 I was thinking about buy one and seeing if there is anything I can do to modify or improve it. I doubt it since I wouldn't even know where to start, but it's cheap enough to look into. Who's the electronics guru in here? Don't you want to help out your fellow Z owners and make a small profit selling improved replacement microphones? :D I'll buy one!
