View Full Version : Business guys - Would you put a client in the back seat?

If you're taking them out to lunch or something, is the back seat satisfactorily large enough to haul a full sized human in reasonable comfort a few miles back/forth to the local eatery?

My wife's looking for a nice convertible. Immediately I though "911" but she reminded me that at least one of our cars should be a 4-seater. As a major hardcore 2-wheel aficionado I've had to ride in the client's car to lunch for years now (nobody wants to ride bitch on my bikes, strangely enough). I've smashed my big ass into the back of plenty of coupes and I'm wondering if the 6-series is sort of the same thing. Haven't gone to sit in one yet to find out for myself.

Thanks!

Hmmn. I guess I need to decide whether I really care or not, then I should probably go look at one closely, sit in the back seat, etc. For the record, the back seat in a 1-series is fair enough game for me. **** 'em if they can't take a joke. They'll be riding (albeit a tad cramped) in a very nice car.

When it comes down to it I think if I'm going to spend a few beans and get a car I want, I'm going to get the car I want.

back seat is a no no in my car.. i'm 6'3 and my gf is 5'9 so when we ride with another person in the back, there's no room whatsoever.. so unless your client is 5'3, i say go with another car if you are getting 6er for business reasons.

If you're taking clients in the car I wouldn't get anything that didn't have at least 4 doors. Climbing in and out of back seats is annoying, get the 6 as your toy, get the wife a Sedan and then just trade off when you know you'll be shuttling clients ;)

Not the car to put a business client in the back seat. If it was for a big deal, I would probably let him/her drive the car to close the deal.

Ha! I'm cracking up. Well the clients might be out of luck then. Choice may be between the back of the bad motor scooter or the back of the 6-series... or maybe 911. We'll just keep taking their car. My wife's the one that makes all the loot anyway. Whether my clients are happy or not is fairly inconsequential. Same reason i don't golf.

Would not even consider it... hence the reason I bought a 535i for my daily driver.

never ever would i put anyone business related into the back seat. MAYBE if i told them in advance what they were getting themselves into jokingly and they still agree then yes.

I wouldn't even dream of it....hell I won't even let the CEO (wife) get back there. She figures for the cheese we spent, it has to have a driver :D.......Phil

When I had a two-seater, I rented the most kickass four-door on the rental lot for the day. Deal done.

Miiiight work if you are not really tall and had the seat placed a bit to the front, but still the main issue is not sitting, its getting IN and OUT !

btw Gene, any pics of the 535i ?

Not much to see... just your everyday 535i. Reasonably well equipped, and a set of spacers to take out the gaps and some tint. I'm thinking I'll pickup some 20" Hartge Classic's for it in a few months. Seeing them posted here a week or two ago really sparked me.

looking cool ! yeah the spacers do make a difference, wheels are aligned with the body  Im guessing 10mm

Maybe painting the orange reflector black will help give a better look ?

Hartge would look really nice ! :)

10mm front and 18mm rear

I was thinking about that reflector just this afternoon. I came across a 2009 7 Series and it had a very similar reflector. The pics I've seen of it on the web did not :dunno: (The new 7 looked really hot in person)

Well they started calling it the Boring 7 lol. but I saw it in person when I visited Dingolfing plant in Germany past July, where the 5er, 6er, and 7er are produced, and it looked Cool !

btw talking about numbers, the plant works on 3 shifts (24/24) and produces 1,200 5er's per day (including M5's) !!!

(Last topic stray ;) )

I think it has a wonderful road presence. I was behind it for a while and for some reason, it appeared to have a similarity to the 850i. Sort of "broad shoulders" in the rear. The body line that runs through the door handles into the tail lights looked great as well. About 5 minutes later, I caught something else coming the other way. No doubt a BMW, but really heavy camo. 5 series? Dunno. :dunno:

I think a black one with a set of wheels would be smoking hot.

6 for most people is really a two seater with emergency space for occupants. Like children. However, sounds like you want a sport car as a first priority and want something with token space to put someone in the back if YOU HAD TO. Since I trust you know your business better than I, sounds like you should go for the the 6. The clients will grumble jokingly on the space, but they will also really admire that car. Given that trade off, and the fact that it sounds like you aren't too worried about it...Get the 6!!!!!!

That's exactly the case and why I'm going to look hard at the 6 despite the lack of rear seat space. It's very rare that I need to haul 2 or more business people around. My business isn't about winning or losing a deal based upon entertaining clients, and 90% of the time the back seat would be used by friends or family that I scoop up at the airport to save them a cab ride, and all of them know me enough to go along with any of my vehicular shenanigans, having been hauled around in previous vehicles that were complete unreasonable (fully caged, stinking like fuel vapors, loud & scary, etc) so this would seem like a friggin limo in comparison. I buy cars for me; because my business does not ultimately depend upon it, I'm not going to spend 350 days a year driving around in a compromise that I made so somebody can be comfortable for the 15 days a year that they're riding in my car.

Also, I'm moving into an industry where motorheads rule so the sacrifice in comfort will be worth the cool factor of riding in such a vehicle for most of them.

And another thing, (haha) this will be my wife's car and I'll be picking up a crew cab diesel eventually to tow my toyhauler around, so that can be the people mover. Not as snazzy but it'll do the trick.

You like how I completely talked myself into the 6 during that post? Awesome.

ONLY if your client was slobbering all over the car for a ride, and was a quadraplegic, hence, somewhat unlikely. The rear seats were included, I am told, for European tax reasons, no more, no less.

Atleast the rear seats in the 6 can actually accompany human beings, unlike the new Jaguar XK... even for kids, there is zero leg room! the is no actual gap between front and rear seats. The image below shows leg room coz the front seats are bent over totally to the front, believe me, I saw it in person

And last but not least... the Lexus SC430... no comments on this one...

stratus650,
thanks for those pics. really gives anyone wondering about the rear leg room, a real good look at how minimal it is. And the jaguar xk bows to a 6 series. 650i>>> jaguar xk-r.

ps: you live in one of the most beautiful, culturally rich cities in the world. It is indeed a blessing my friend.

I think Throttlejock is really looking for a token back seat to occasionally stuff someone in the back and is not really concerned about leg room or comfort but getting the person into the car and to a destination a short distance away. His priority appears to be to get a car he likes first, then worry about the back passenger. If I read his (I'm assuming it's a him) correctly.

Not as bad as a 3 coupe in the back.

I would not assume its not bad as you think.

When my Mom had an M6 I would take it out periodically and we never had any problems in the back seat.

But i was not entertaining any clients just my friends.
