View Full Version : Z4 Oil change interval

If your oil is changed, and the mileage to replacement indicator depends on the viscosity of the oil, why would it not reset itself after an oil change?

My oil was changed yesterday but apparently it was not reset/has not reset itself
What should have been done?

It needs to be reset manually. It doesn't depend on the viscosity of the oil -- it's calculated by how you drive the car.

Now that's not a particularly helpful response to the question; it borders on being snobby ;)
How about referring them to the Z4 FAQ Item #18?

The guy with the 03 and the one with the 08 are confused. My 07 Z4,s interval is dictated by milage or time only. If I am not mistaken 15K or 1 year. My wifes 08 328 decides when based on how you drive the car. Around town gets serviced sooner than highway miles. GH

It depends on a particular amount of gallons of gas you use.

So even though I drive pretty hard on short distances, but have a fair bit of highway miles mixed into each tank, that gives an average, pretty good I think, mpg per tank of 25mpg or more which I think is where moderate drivers with more city driving would come out.
So its a good idea you think to replace it sooner than it suggests?
I do, around 5,000-6,000miles. Probably not necessary but it lets me sleep peacefully that I am looking after it.

After the oil change in the M 1,200 miles service, which I do, I change the oil and filter every 4,500 miles.
