Hi,
i am picking up a CPO 2006 X3 tomorrow. The dealer is asking whether i want to upgrade the maintenance plan to 6 years/100K miles for about $1800, and i can only do that tomorrow. Is it worth it? I would really like your opinion on that. Thanks!

Your dealer is lying; you can purchase the maintenance extension anytime up until the expiration of the original 4 yr/50k mile warranty and maintenance.

Really? thanks for telling me that. And where do I do that when the time comes? directly through BMW USA or any BMW dealer?

Check in Idrive or paperwork when was the last brake job done, cuz that the most expensive maintenance item (on my 7 it is).
I made a mistake of purchasing one, when my brake job is still 11000 miles away and I drive like 4K miles a year. So, $1995 down the drain. Well, not entirely. Take $500 off it for oil, brake fluid change, and a set of wiper blades.:rofl:
They only maintain things based on CBS, and no one does you a favor of replacing/maintaining things earlier than the CBS.
P.S. Regardless, you have two years to think about it or 50K miles whichever comes first.

You can purchase it through any dealer, so shop around. Prices often vary hugely from store to store because they are highly-marked up.
There is no CBS on the X3; the computer is from the E46. When your brakes wear thin, a warning light will show up. Brake fluid is covered under the maintenance plan, and should be done every 2 years from date of manufacture.

Thanks, I stand corrected.

Then what about the Tire plan (or whatever they call it)? basically $895 for 3 years. It covers both the tire and the rim. should i get it? I live in NYC. the road is the worst.

If you're looking for votes - yes. Just bought a 08' 550i and picked tire/wheel warranty up at the same time - roads are terrible in Illinois. Also, bought it for my wife's Z4 at the same time.
