There is a post on the 3-series board that got me thinking...
"Im 16 and i want to get a 335i how much will the insurance be"
When I was 16 and working in a semi-fast food type establishment making $3.75 hour, my first car was a used Chevrolet Spectrum... my dad made me earn and save 1/4 of the price first then he matched it and I had to finance the other half. My first car payment was $106/month.
Here is a link to what my first car looked like for your car enthusiasts: (oh, I didn't have the TURBO model... lol)
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/FEG/noframes/2990.shtml
Yes it turned out to be a crappy car... and the last American made model I ever bought... but it did teach me the valuable lesson of work ethic and appreciating things more later on after many years of hard work and college.
Any thoughts?

Te first car I drove though was a Peugeot 307. It's my mum's car and I was on the insurance. Insurance on dad's bimmer was too much.

Uhm, didn't get crap from my parents after high school. Nada.
Scraped to survive coming out of high school till I got together enough to buy a Mazda 808 (http://www.cardomain.com/MakeModel/Mazda/808).
Still one of my favorite cars. ;)

1986 red Dodge Colt coupe' (just like you M coupe people but more awesome!). 4 speeds of 1.2L, 94hp (about 27 at the wheels...) fun! Nobody can touch the bad-assness of my car!

I was the first kid I knew that had a CD player in his car. Too bad it was at such and angle that it skipped every time I went over a peddle in the road...
Regardless, you had to be a pretty big man to drive that car and still pull women!

I, too, had to help purchase my first car. It was a Ranggon red 1965 Mustang Convertible. 289 with a 3 deuce setup, red pony interior, automatic (which sucked and blew out within 6 months of restoring it), ralleye wheels...damn fine car. We bought it from a guy in Atlanta and I had to purchase it with my money I had saved over the years. I think I paid $3k for it and my parents paid to have it painted and, for the most part, restored. I got tired of the auto and within a year or so, sold it (at a huge profit) and bought a '66 mustang with a 289 (used the same 3 deuce carb setup on it)...much faster and more fun to drive.
Mind you this all took place in 1991 when the car market was soft enough that we could buy old 'stangs for reasonable prices.

damn st8t, girlie! You know you want to take a ride wit da big pimp... :p
i went from that to a sh!t-brown S-10 my friends called "terd"... another classic!
From there, it was off to a couple of white grandman-mobiles: a 1994 Mercury Sable that loved to blow head gaskets and on to a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme! Big pimpin'!
Then I started to get to real cars and bought a 2003 maxima.
And now I'm on my p3n0r-mobile.
My god! I need to go and buy a real car fast!

1972 Ford Courier....
I promptly began the modding if the engine with a carb, cam & headers. When the engine blew shortly thereafter, it was replaced with a 302 Small Block, C5 trans and a narrowed 9" rear end.

At 15 I bought a 1970 Ford LTD, paid $200 for it, had to replace the gas tank cuz previous owner had backed over a stump and tore a big hole in it.
I worked at the high school to pay for it. It had a 351C engine 2 barrel carb and it looked very similar to this pic, though it was red.

this was my first car when i was 15 but i never insured or registered it. It got stolen before my 16th birthday (it was my 15th birthday present)... I was soo upset. I had worked and saved up a lot of money. I had bought a full sound system for it, and a full racebeat suspension, steering wheel and rims...

1982 Mercury Capri that didn't run... In the mean time while I was putting an engine in it, I drove a K-Car. Every kid should have to drive a K-Car at least once. Especially all of those spoiled little f@#$ers who get late model Mercs or BMW's for first vehicles when they are 16.

A '68 VW bus that had spent the previous decade serving as a tool shed. I needed a ride and my girlfriend's dad told me that I could have it if I could make it run. It looked a lot like the attached picture, but the non-rusted parts were white instead of blue.
