Trouble free our X3 is no longer.
Sunroof cassette went bad. :(
Not a huge deal for us as the car is under warranty.
Dealer has ordered parts. They also re-loaded the ECU firmware. (We have Manual Transmission)
328i coupe loaner was nice for a change. Car has premium, sport and cold weather packages. Maybe a few others, I didn't spend a lot of time looking. Nice car if a little heavy on options.
I'll post an update when we take the car back in again. No rush on our part. Not exactly open roof weather right now.

My biggest fear... what went wrong on it? How did you know it was time to be replaced?

It made this really loud crunching noise when we tried to open it. I reversed right away and it closed making more loud noises. The sun shade made loud noises and wouldn't close.
SA only told us they need to replace the cassette. He said that is usually what needs to be done. The entire mechanism is a replace as a single unit. They are not repaired at the dealer.
Throttle response is slightly different after the ECU re-load. Not better or worse, just different. Took me a few minutes to rev-match my shifts without thinking about it.

Took the car back in for the cassette replacement.
DME software update from the last service visit fixed the occasional stalling at idle problem.
Loaner is a low option manual transmission 328i sedan. I was surprised to see it in the loaner fleet. SA was delighted that I'm able to drive it. He was running low on service loaners. If you can get past the looks, it is a very nice car. Fantastic driver.
Update when I get the X3 back.

What was the problem with the looks? Just not a coupe? Strange they would have a manual in the loaner fleet. A special order that went south perhaps.

The 3 series sedans are ugly. The coupes aren't too bad.
Car is black over beige leatherette. Only options are power seats and 6FL. Except for the black paint, that is exactly what I'd order if I was getting a 3er.
Has to be a customer ordered car that didn't sell. Area dealers often have a MT 328i on the lot, but they are usually coupes and always have the sport package.
I just put 40 miles on it. Absolute joy to drive.

Matter of opinion... :D
Have not had any experience with 128, so for me 328i 6MT is the most fun to drive bimmer I've had (again, that is also matter of opinion, and yes, I know about 335...) :bigpimp: You should try 328i with ZSP...

I autocrossed an AT one with ZSP. I prefer it over the 335i. 335 is too much grunt and not as much fun. Of course you do get better times in the 335i.
I've taken dealer test drives in the 128i and 135i. The convertible is very well executed.

Got the X3 back on Thursday.
Frame was bent the first time they did the repair. Dealer had to order another cassette.
Paperwork wasn't ready when I picked up the car. They are mailing it to me.
Sunroof doesn't stop half-way open. I'll have to try and re-initialize it. Been raining for 2 days, so I haven't had the chance.
I asked about the 328i. Came from Jacksonville. The dealer agreed to take it in order to get cars they wanted.
If anyone is looking for a low option MT 328i, they would like to sell it. I'd guess you could get a deal on it.

My dealer has a 328i with Sport, manual, xenons and electric seats only. Low price, minimum content. The only reason it's sitting for 133 days is because of the Platinium Bronze colour. : puke:

I LOVE platinium bronze, doesn't show the dirt and cleans up very nice. Probably not selling because of the MT.

Disagree. At one point, there was a Titanium Silver that was similarly equipped. Guess which one sold first.

There is a market for a low option silver or black 328i coupes with MT and Sport Package.
Atlanta area dealers often have one in stock.
The loaner was a sedan with 6FL and Power Seats as the only options.
