How much does a dealer spend for the CPO certification on a 3 series? E90. I have a car I am looking at where I KNOW what the dealer paid at auction, and it was listed as above average condition with a bit over 20k miles. So I am guessing the dealer didn't need to do a break job or replace the tires.

Any information would be appreciated so I can make a good offer. Thanks

I think I heard this was $1800 from a dealer when I was shopping, but for some reason I recall hearing that was retail and cost is $1500. But I've got no documentation...

I asked Audi if I could buy a CPO warranty once, and they quoted me something like $2000 for two years. The above info sounds reasonable. Its basically just a warranty and you can shop around for that to see what they go for. Edmunds.com has that information in the "true cost to own" section for their cars, so that will give you a ballpark.

Realize the CPO doesn't mean you are getting a good car, just a warranty. I knew someone once who bought a Frankenstein CPO car once - two cars welded together (behind the rear wheels). He had his lawyer force the dealership to buy it back when he found out.

I'm not 100% certain of this, but the figure that's in my head is $995 - the fee dealers pay to BMW for the certification/warranty. Add to that whatever services/repairs are performed on the car to bring it up to CPO standards. I got the work order for my car for the work the dealer did. It was just over $2500 (retail) in work done not including new tires they put on the car. So, the cost varies with each car.

Of course $2500 retail work probably costs the dealer $500 out of pocket, lol. As they get the parts wholesale and the techs are salaried:)
