Ok so i just got my 06 325i and am planning a road trip from LA to vegas (5 hrs?) but I am slightly concerned about my car getting stolen there (i think i have the stock alarm system if any). Do you guys think its worth the risk or should i rent a car?
BTW how is the milage on the 325i with 4 passengers on the freeway??

Why would someone steal a 325? There are plenty of other cars that would be easier and have more value than that.
if you're also worried about gas mileage going to vegas,
maybe you oughta just stay home. j/k. :)

Its a 325, the mileage should be such that a person going to Vegas, presumably to gamble, should not have to worry about the cost...

Do people really listen to a barking car horn/alarm anymore? When aftermarket car alarms became very popular you could get a whole crowd of people to look but now days I think most Americans keep on struttin'.

I've driven my 335i twice to Vegas without a second thought
Just valet it
If you're really concerned, have them park it with the M series, AMG's and Ferraris/Bentleys that they leave right in front. It will probably cost you a $20-$40 tip, but your car will always be in sight of dozens of people.

I just did couple weeks ago in my new 328i. Average 27.5mpg. You bought a bimmer, use it like it's meant to be used. I am going up to Monterey via hwy 1 this weekend.
Don't worry about getting it stolen in Vegas, there are cameras all over. Stay in a good hotel. Park the car in a well lit parking structure.

I think the mafia would not want their customer's car stolen or scratched. It's not good for their gambling business.

As long as you're parking in a parking garage at any of the big casinos or hotels, you'll be fine. Enjoy the road trip!

OMG people. It's a f**kin' 3 series. It's a dime a dozen. In Vegas it'll be about as common as a Honda Civic. You people are treating it like it's a $100,000 car. Fer Christ sake, the 3 series (well, now the 1 series) is still the bottom of the barrel, BASE BMW model. It's about as likely to be stolen as the car that you may park to in Vegas.
It's a nice car but C'MON.

its not just a 3-series....its HIS 3-series..... means a lot more to him than it does to you. :)

Don't worry about stuff like that or you'll end up being afraid of leaving your living room.
Life is too short.
Go and have a good time and send us pictures of you losing your shirt at blackjack.

well thanks for the input guys
i think ill just take it to vegas =D
and the-HACK sry I am not as rich as you are, I am just a college student who is payin for his own 325i + educational costs...
Hack looks like a douchebag now... lets all gang up on him with violent insults.
Hack has a point. If the cost of the car is so much of your income that you have to lose sleep over driving it somewhere, then you have too much car IMO. It's a nice car, but it's still just a car.
Life's too short to get your panties in a twist over something like the possibility of a car getting stolen. There are much more important things to worry about.
And don't give me this poor college student crap. If you can afford a bimmer, tuition, fees, and living expenses then you are better off than 75% of the people in this country.

I say "High roller treatment baby!"
Go to Vegas in your BMW. Plan an interesting route, scenic and winding, no Interstates.
Once at the hotel, park somewhere you're comfortable. Leave the car till you leave Vegas.
Driving in Vegas sucks, let the cabbies take you.
Live large (you do roll in a bimmer) but save enough for gas home.
Place tail between legs, limp on home.

Just had a trip a couple of weeks ago to Vegas in my 5 series. Averaged 26 mpg. Park in the garage of any big hotel. no problem. Enjoy your trip with your car. just be careful of the speed limit when crossing small town. Got a ticket on my way back.

I like hack. And if you are rolling to vegas in style, you are not in a bmw - you are in a gulfstream or even better, a boeing business jet.
Seriously, a 3 series is a common mid sized car. It happens to be german instead of japanese. It is designed to be driven. When a car gets driven, it gets wear and tear like scratches and nicks. Don't worry - its a car. It's replaceable.
The best advice I ever got was to throw a shovel of dirt in your car the day you get it home from the dealership. It forces me to not sweat the small stuff and instead to enjoy every minute that I am in one of my cars - beating the hell out of it. Curb rash - oops! the story about how the rim hit the curb is a doozy! Let me tell you the story about how I got that scratch! That stain on the headliner is even a better story!

Let me get this straight, you're in college, probably working your @ss off to pay for tuition AND a BMW? Smart.
I "drove" a 7 speed bike for 2 years, a pair of Reeboks for 1, and my '91 Integra for another 5 years AFTER college before I bought a '97 Z3 1.9L. I treated my Z3 well, but I still was well aware that it was, at the time, the cheapest BMW you can get and I still drove it to work everyday and park wherever. When the Z3 got broken into, twice, in my own apartment complex, it wasn't like it was the end of the world (insurance paid for the damages anyway).
Again, it's a f**kin' 3 series. And if you're stretching to "own" that 3 series while in college, you need to re-think your priorities.

Just buy an insurance, then even if it is stolen you can replace it with another shiny new bimmer.

lol.
this thread reminds me of a poker forum thread where this dude was going to a casino for like the first time in his life and he was scared to walk out of the casino with $300 in his wallet for fear of being robbed.
